NGD Slick SL50

$260 clams...delivered in less than a week.

I've always wanted a tele style axe but never wanted to spend what Fender charges for a good one. It ain't fancy...but then again that's the whole point. Just two rock solid chunks of wood with satin finish that's as thin as it gets. Thing feels almost like raw wood. Bridge pup pops and quacks like it should...neck pup is mellow and woody and combined they compliment nicely. Came with the necessary adjustment wrenches and even a cheapo cable. (A nice touch that a beginner might not have thought of.)

Came set-up with a medium low action. Feels good to me so unless it moves I ain't changing a thing. 22 frets...the neck feels like a shallow fender C. My MIM strat neck feels jeeeeest a tad deeper.

I didn't get a case but the box in box packaging was adequate enough to get to me intact.

Play blues slide? You could probably afford one for each tuning you use and keep the folks in the audience dancin' all night.

It isn't just a decent player for the money. It's a decent player period. Can't wait to pair it with the super cheap Bad Cat that should arrive tomorrow!

Yeah, I've been looking for a P90 guitar and the DC Jr type they have looks pretty cool. I might have to take the plunge. Happy NGD, SlyFoxx!

I really like the look of that. I like it when lower-priced guitars are stripped down. Makes you think they didn't spend all the allotted money making it look like something else.

I always liked that about the PRS SE's. They don't try to make them identical to the USA models, appearance-wise. They're designed to the budget, rather than given a certain amount of money to make a replica.

The idea of using a Slick for slide is brilliant.

Day #2 report. Checked intonation and it was pretty good save the G string. It needed to come back a bit. The logic of the bridge screws took a moment to figure out. You need to adjust two screws on each saddle...sort of a push-pull arrangement. Not bad for the rear screw but a bit tricky for the front. But as that's not something you need to do often I'd have to let that slide.

But for string changes the whole bridge has to be raised or there's not enough room for the ball end of the string to come out. That means setting the bridge height back to playing height after each string change. Not the biggest deal in the world as it is just two screws but under battlefield conditions like say a gig ...not ideal by any means. Also the slots in the bridge posts are not wide enough to truly accommodate my large flat screwdriver. Extra caution had to be taken to not let the screwdriver slip. (hey Guitar Fetish..are you listening? Widen those slots out another millimeter M'kay) I know it's a rough plank of wood but I'm not looking to scratch it anymore than will already happen with normal use.

Tossed a TS9 into the mix today. Digging this thing with a bit of grind. The bridge pups is especially nasty in a good way.

Does it sound like a telecaster without the bridge assembly? Every time I read about putting a tele bridge into a strat people say it won't sound right without all the metal surrounding it.
