NGD - Stephen Bruton's "Crazy Heart" Gretsch

Re: NGD - Stephen Bruton's "Crazy Heart" Gretsch

A story like that nearly brings tears to my eyes. Yes, I'm getting sappy in my old age, but I love a great story like that. It's a beautiful guitar, but with that kind of story it could be a beat to heck "anything" and it would still be one special guitar worth every penny.

Congrats Evan.

Re: NGD - Stephen Bruton's "Crazy Heart" Gretsch

Very, very nice. I wondered if it was a gretsch CG or the gibson ripoff he was playin in the movie--if it was a gibson ida been upset, chet himself preferred the gretsches

So how do you like the filters? I imagine you're wondering why duncan doesn't make any right about now :)

edit: the one in production doesn't count; it doesn't have the blades of the super neck or the overwound bridge.

Way underrated pickups IMO, I think you should see em in a lot more than gretsches

Wow! Man that is a great story and also a great looking guitar. You look like a kid in a candy store playing that beauty. You have many reasons to feel good today.

Look at that first form bar G chord!!!! Good Gawd Man!!!! How is it Malmsteen, Vai, or Satch hasn't picked you up for their bands???????

That is a fantastic story Evan!!!!! I have to see that movie now. I can think of a couple of guitars like that I'd love to own. You are living the dream dude - cherish that moment for all of us.

You do a ton for others dude. Glad to see stuff happen for you!

My wife never understands when I tell her send my 73 LP to Jeff_H if anything happens to me...

'Cause I'm already in Seymour W. Duncan's band, thankyouverymuch.

Which band did you say you were in Aceman??? :p

Wow, Great story behind that guitar.

I wonder how a Dimebucker would sound in it :scratchch :joke:

Re: NGD - Stephen Bruton's "Crazy Heart" Gretsch

I bet a Dimebucker would sound great in it, but it wouldn't be "that Gretsch sound" that I'm jonesing for.

Hahahaha you're such an asshole

Lighten up Francis. Nothing but love for the Skoppman. And YOU know it looks like a hand shot for a Mel Bey Guitar Instruction book!

Seymour's Band...well I'm in....I'm jamming with....I'm gonna play....I was supposed to Jam in Gene's Dean thing.....

Evan! Duncan! Gretsch! :headbang: Let's get back on topic....

By the way Evan - what will you do with a piece like that? Is it a player or a show piece or both or what? I not a collector guy - so if I owned it I'd play it. At least that's what I say not owning anything like that. I can't believe you wouldn't play it. Yet do you want o play it? Know what I mean?

Do you have any other axes like that with stories? What do you do with them?

Re: NGD - Stephen Bruton's "Crazy Heart" Gretsch

I'm definitely going to play it. The guitar has a great deal of sentimental value to me, but that just makes me want to play it even more. For some reason, I think that playing it is a better way of honoring Stephen's memory than letting it hang on a wall or sit in a case. We do a Stephen Bruton tune on our set ("Make that Call") and Seymour already told me that he thinks it'd be super cool to play Stephen's guitar on that song.

Plus, I don't have another Gretsch in my collection. And what got me started with all this was my acute case of Gretsch Fever. I look at guitars as tools. And I don't have another tool in my toolbox that does what this one does.

The thing is, I got it on Thursday and I've only been home for like 10 minutes since then so I haven't had a chance to play it yet. It's driving me crazy!

Some of my other guitars have stories attached to them, but I think this guitar has the best one of them all.

Re: NGD - Stephen Bruton's "Crazy Heart" Gretsch

I'm pretty sure that the strap Stephen was using on the Esquire in this video is the same one that came with my Gretsch.
