NGD: Talk to me about Cort

Re: NGD: Talk to me about Cort

Cool deal.

Score that at the Fleamarket on Ramona off I-10? Been a while since I was there but I used to walk through that one and see a few guitars.

Yup. Exactly. You have to keep your eye out for the "deals". I scored a nice Epiphone "batwing" Strat a few weeks ago for $25. It's not nearly as nice as the Cort, but for $25, its an "experimental" model.

That makes it a later example.

Meanwhile, if SD P-Rails seem like an extravagance on a thirty Dollar bargain, consider GFS or Tonerider humbucker-sized P90s. Keep thinking SG Special. :)

I don't mind the extravagance per se, as this seems like a solid axe. But, I do have a nice set of gold-covered Duncan Designed HB-102's sitting here. (JB/Jazz set.) I'm thinking of upgrading to gold hardware. I can get the stuff at wholesale through my luthier friend. The gold would really set off this wineberry, with gold metal flake, nicely.

You could even add some car stripes around the carve to resemble a PRS Metal. Remember those?

I'll have to Google that. I'm not familiar with it, but then again, I think I'm going to leave the paint alone. Its actually one of my nicest looking guitars that I have now. :)

Win! The -102 pair would give your Cort more or less the spec of an LTD-100 series. Raspberry 'n' gold? Yummy!

Re: NGD: Talk to me about Cort

Heh . . . well, I guess that settles that. HB-102's and gold it is. :fing2:

Re: NGD: Talk to me about Cort

I have one guitar with the name Cort on the headstock. I have several others made by Cort for other brands. If yo' Ibanez, Schecter or Squier has a Crafted In Indonesia decal on the rear of its headstock, Cort made it. I am not sure whether their facilities in Korea are still manufacturing guitars for the European and North American markets.

Actually I think, Samick makes them ( Cort, Ibanez ext), the ones crafted in Indonesia. My Ibby SA 120 is made in Indonesia. I still have the original tags in the gig bag. It does say made by Samick.

Re: NGD: Talk to me about Cort

Actually Cort used to make the lower end Squiers such as the SE and the Affinity models until production moved to China a few years ago. We have a small Mom & Pop store a couple of miles from my house called " Larry Bee's Music " which is a Cort dealer.

^ That's sweet!

Speaking of shredder's, I've got two Cort X-6's. They're both very well put together & brilliantly finished guitars....real players too, pretty much on par with any RG or Dinky out there.

Re: NGD: Talk to me about Cort

What pickups you got in there Phantasmagoria

Yeah, like Rand-O-Monium said.. regular Blackouts (with an AHB-2 'Metal' in the bridge) in the snakeskin one ...& & a pair of Lace Deathbuckers (with a Hotrails in the middle) in the other. They both sound great!

Ah yeah, those are the ones that had the people at Dean pissed. They're near ripoffs of the Dean Batio geetar.

Pretty cool lookin' though.

Re: NGD: Talk to me about Cort

WTF?!! Was the seller craving for smack or what?

Nah! Not everyone understands "flea-market" pricing. He probably could've scored a bill on Craigslist. The flea-market is about an immediate return.
We both "scored". ;)

P.S. I'm installing the HB-102's as we speak.

Re: NGD: Talk to me about Cort

I should have some up before the days over. I ran into a couple of wiring problems, (wires too short), and a customer needed a rush job on their axe.
