NGD! Taylor 214CE

I like Taylor guitars, I dig their tone, feel, shape, playability, sound and look. I know some on this forum are not huge fans of Taylor, but I like em.

I got this via a trade. I ended up trading a guy my VHT Deliverance 60 head for the Taylor. I know the VHT had more value, but the thing wasn't selling. Listed it on CL and Pittsburgh forums and only got a few looks. I even had it for $700 (which they were selling for on Ebay). Oddly enough a used 214ce and the VHT on ebay we're selling for the same amount. I actually traded a guy a DSL 100 for the VHT.

Couple that with the fact that I'm no longer in a band, don't plan on starting one till after the baby is born and I needed an acoustic, I think it worked out well for me. PLus I can finally sell some cabs to make some extra money.

Here's a stock photo, more pics to come.

*This is my 2nd Taylor. I used to own a 314CE. Granted the 214 is not as nice as 314, but it's still a rocking guitar. I'm neutral on the laminate (I used to own a MArtin DX series). The guitar sings nice. I plan on finally redoing my solo acoustic album, so I'm excited about that.

Nice but now aren't you ampless? If so, what are your plans for that? Anything in mind?...
?

I got a 114 about a month ago and am in acoustic heaven. A great $8 upgrade is a set of D'Add EXP16s

Yea I'm completely amp less after selling both my jet city 20 combo and vht head and cab. Truthfully I havent touched it for a few months after my band broke up. Took a lil break. After 4 yrs of doing the same thing, it was nice to take a lil vaca.

I don't see myself joing a band anytime soon. I have a baby coming in June. I'll look to get back into it next Fall. That being said, when I get some funds I plan on picking up a used Mesa Rectoverb combo.

Re: NGD! Taylor 214CE

Congrats! Taylors are amazing acoustics for sure. They're not for everyone (people who really need the warm Martin tone aren't usually very fond of the Taylor high-end-mid zing thing) but I for one love 'em.
I've had my 414 for 10 years and it's an amazing guitar. Hope this one serves you well!

Re: NGD! Taylor 214CE

For what it is, It'll serve me well. Till I can invest in a 314 or above. I miss my 314.

Re: NGD! Taylor 214CE

Congratulations! I'm a Taylor fan too. Got three of them. The dread is my 710 Brazilian. The other two are my 512's.

Really nice set man.

Have you tried any of their KOA guitars?

Just in the store. Never owned one. I like spruce tops. Englemann especially. We even have a stand of Englemann Spruce growing near our home.

All three of my Taylor's are from '95 and '96, BTW. My favorite period. Had 'em for a while.

Thanks!

Awesome bro. I'm all about getting a Taylor 210. I love the Taylor brightness and the DN body, it's a great balance. I like Taylors, nearly every one I pick up seems to always sound great and play great.

Re: NGD! Taylor 214CE

Out of most Taylor models, I've found that the 214's are amongst the most resonant, lively, and toneful. It's not about the price, or the fact that others have more expensive options. It must be that all the variables that go into a 214 were a good combination.

When I go to music stores, I spend the most time playing good acoustics, and the 214's always make me want one.

Re: NGD! Taylor 214CE

LOVE 214s, just never had the dough for one! Played a used one years ago that was magic, blew away the other Taylors including the all Koa my buddy was ordering at the time - salesman said Doyle Dykes had done a clinic the night before and that was the guitar he picked to use! Someday...

Re: NGD! Taylor 214CE

214 CE is a nice guitar - very articulate, present and playable. The only knock on 'em I've heard is that some people think they should have solid woods for their pricepoint at MSLP.

Frankly, I'd love to have one...:cool2:

I would agree with this to a degree.

When you're paying over a grand, you would think they'd use real wood. Then you see Martin doing the exact same thing with their DX models.

Re: NGD! Taylor 214CE

I got my 114 (non-electric) for under $600 brand new. As I understand the main difference between the 114 and 214 is finish on the top, sapele lam vs RW lam sides, minor bracing differences and maybe a bit of cosmetic adornment

I will eventually be adding a JJB SBT
