NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

Re: NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

So you're moving on and moving out?

Are your parents accepting applications for your replacement? Can you give me some hints so I know how to get over?

Yeah, pretty much in the next year-ish.

Replacement? I have a brother doing a PHD, lol... and he's a piano player. Wonder how that will work out....

Awe dang, I'm tearing up. Effing beautiful story man. Excuse me...gotta go man up.

Ya me too. You've got some awesome parents! Congratulations!

Re: NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

Hell yeah man - I have a similar but less dramatic story featuring my own parents and a Westerly, RI Guild.

Re: NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

Are Gibson and Baldwin still owned by the same company? Maybe he'll land a baby grand. But I don't know how they'd hide that bad boy in a case.

Yeah man, they are super awesome. They raised me and my brother, and really allowed us to develop in any way we wanted, and me and my brother chose musically. I remember being 5, and my dad having a really, really nice piano brought to the house so we could learn. By the time I was 14 I had so many grads from the conservatory I didn't have to take any art classes in highschool if I didn't want to. Same thing with guitars and what I'm doing now. He's a big rock fan (60s and 70s, but the more modern stuff also), and he's never missed one of my shows, now that I really think about it. My mom's the same way, never got into music, but she's our biggest fan for sure.

They are pretty stern people, specially my dad who is a man of few words, but I'm super thankful for how they brought me up, and you could really see that this was a way for them to say that they were proud of me. This guitar is actually so much more than a guitar.

That's super cool dude, caus that type of instrument becomes so much more than just an instrument. I mean, I love all my guitars, but the Aria always had a special place for me, which is why I played it so long and so hard, and now this one, which I have not even had in my hands for 24 hours, is just as special, and exponentially more than anything I could have bought myself.

Lol, well... let's just say the store I buy my guitars from was, and still is, firstly a guitar store. They specialize in Steinway actually. When I was there earlier this week, the owner took me to the repair room, where they were doing a full restore on a 73 baby grand, if I recall correctly.

The store is mental man. The only guitars they sell are Gibson, Martin, Taylor, Collins, Suhr, Gretsch, PRS and Fender Custom Shop. They also carry Lakland basses, and sometimes they will have a few epis.

www.lauzonmusic.com
That's for anybody ever in Ottawa. I can't recommend these guys enough.

Congrats man . . . it's always awesome to hear stories with parents being cool about music stuff.

Re: NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

Brilliant ! (in every way)

I dunno why it is, but acoustic guitar stories just seem so much more ...... earthy ? ..... than any other gear stories.

As the years go by, the guitar and the meaning will only get more special.

congratulations !

^this

Congrats, ENJOY IT in good health!

Absolutely - that's the beauty of it - it could be the same exact guitar you were going to go buy yourself the very same day, but now it means more than it would have if you'd done that.

Amazing how context influences life.

Re: NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

Awesome. People always talk about how their guitars have sentimental value, but your new Gibson REALLY does.

You're doing the right thing by owning just a few guitars, but making sure they're great guitars.

Re: NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

That's so cool of your parents, and congrats on your wonderful NGD!

Re: NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

This really is a great story, and the fact that it came from them absolutely means everything. If you were to tell us, "Hey, guys, I saved up for a sweet acoustic, check it out!" I'm sure everyone would tell you, "Hey, that's cool!"

But this is a story you can tell your kids. Or maybe not, because you don't want to set the bar too low. Make those little ****ers earn it.

Re: NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

Great story! You've got the right idea; a quality acoustic is a must have :fing2: It sounds like you've got similar tastes to mine and that Gibson is b-e-a-utiful! I hope it brings you years of joy and inspires you to write some killer stuff :)

Re: NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

Thanks again everyone! I just got home from my drummer's house, and I got to really dig into the guitar. Sounds great. Added the ebony endpins today, and also put heavier strings on her. She has some real punch! Having a lot of fun.

True. This was actually the exact one I wanted to purchase. It would of been special, kind of like my LP is special. Now it's much more.

Cheers to you all!

Re: NGD - The most special one I've had....ever.... (PICS)

you sound like like someone whos bought their first Gibson Acoustic.
A J45 is a standard entry level baroom Gibson workingmans guitars.
To say it has more projection than a J200 is utterly absurd.
The J45 is the lowest common denominator for the Gibson Line. Its the tradtional workingmans baseline Gibson.
The J200 is the top of the line Jumbo bodied Gibson guitar . To say a J45 has more projection than a J200 is total B.S.

Then you say your J45 is warmer and more bassy than Martin? E+Which martin? I even question that for a D18 or above.
You sound like someone on an Agile forum.
Look bud, tyour J45 is a FABULOUS guitra, and way betetr than any acoustic that I onw, just keep your pecker in your pants is all I'm sayi'n.

Sorry to piss on your Parade, and congrats, but get real..*real real.

Lol, if you say so. J-45s are all about projection bud. Volume and projection are different things, and while the jumbo has more frequency range, the J-45 has that mid punch for which it was designed, that allows it to fire like a cannon.

As for comparing it to a Martin, I stated above : Compared it to a D-18v, and a D-35. It has a tighter and more vocal bass response. Argue with me all you want on that. What the martins had was more defined top end, and individual note response. The bass has more punch on the gibson.

I might sound like someone on an Agile forum, but no matter how you shape it, you sound like a ****ing dick.

Jerry, please delete your post. Please.

Actually, I'd rather keep it there. I think it makes for interesting discussion. I did a hell of a lot of research and played, literally, every acoustic guitar in my town in the 2k-4k range, and I want to discuss these claims, because I find them to be interesting.

No freakin way man.I'm not knocking your J-45. I dream of owning that guitar its a dream of a acoustic and somthing to be very prousd of..but to put a it up against a Big Bertha like a J-200 Rosewood(let alone maple) is plain ignorance.

If we are talking frequency range dude, sure, but I don't think we are talking about the same thing. Of course a jumbo is going to produce more frequencies at both ends of the spectrum, resulting in a different kind of perceptible volume, but in a different way than a J-45. The J-45 is all mids, that's why I bought it. I have a very, very busy bass player and drummer, so I need to cut with projection. Same thing with my Les Paul through the Mesa. When I strum, I need to be able to stand out, with that big focused mid-range projection, that a mahogany dread produces.

But see, that's why they make a bunch of different models... caus we hear differently. I suppose that's the beauty of it.
