so, I got an ernie ball steve morse a little while back.......it never grew on me, so I traded it for THIS.................

'88/'89 PRS custom 24 "10 top" !!!!!!

beautiful abalone bird inlays
original "blank back" pickups
Brazilian rosewood board
"sweet" switch (for mid boost)
frets are like new
little bit of wear on the trem
new dents and dings here and there

the only thing I cant stand is the rotary switch thing....its so annoying. Might change it out for a 3 way switch

Nice work; you got the better deal, I think - people are nuts about pre '95 PRSs.

The only PRS I've played was an '89 CE24 - lovely guitar, wonderfully worn in, impressive one-piece bridge. I also disliked the rotary switch (good sounds out of it though).

Word of advice on the 5 way though work with it a little before you scrap it! HATED it on my 07 Custom 24 at first now would never swap it out. The tones you can get with that switch are AMAZING and once you get the hang of it it is KILLER!

the neck is MUCH thinner than my les paul and the nut slot heights are a little different from my LP. I have to back my pick attack WAY off on the PRS compared to the Gibson.

I love the tones with the 5 way switch.......I hate having to turn it haha 90% of the time I go from the bridge pickup to the neck, so I have to really crank it. Ill keep it on there just for the sake of keeping the guitar original.

The original sweet switch was a passive filter network to soften the treble frequencies.

It might be worth seeking the PRS Upgrade kit. This consisted of various replacement parts - some for weight saving reasons, some for tonal improvements.

Your machine head lock release collars look to be upside down.

My suggestion- since as others mentioned, the pre 95 ones are really desired- is if you plan on having any work done, and have the money, send it to the PRS PTC. The guitar will retain its value this way. The head of the PTC, Len, did a setup on my PRS once and it came back phenomenal

Also, my understanding of the sweet switch is its supposed to emulate the tone of a very long guitar cable if you're using a wireless unit

Similar to my old one I bought at the beginning of 88. Mine was whale blue with B/T pickups, and had been sitting around Chuck Levins for a year or two though.

That rotary is the worst design ever, AFAIC, as is the sweet switch. The pups in general IMO suck. But even then I did not want to devalue mine with some Dimarzios or Duncans.

You probably will not find a better "production" PRS from a quality standpoint. Congrats.

If you go on the PRS website, surf around for the PTC. They have a general list of some prices and instructions how to send your instrument. They do wonders- including if you wanted to update your guitar to modern specs

It takes some getting used to that rotary 5 way and that is a fact. I hated the thing when I got my Custom 24 because I couldn't just look and see where it was + say going from the bridge position to the #4 notch was hard to hit on the fly. But now that I have been using it for a while can't live without it. The variety of tones I can get with the guitar is simply amazing and now I rarely play a gig with out it.
Mine is stone stock with the 5 way HFS and VB.
