NGD. Wanted one of these for a while.

'07 PRS McCarty Korina Braziian. Made with the old growth Brazilian that Paul got from Martin. These were held back for years because of legal issues, then released as "custom built for US only." This one was bought NOS just last year; it's immaculate and light as a feather. Plays like a dream, the rosewood was at least 40 years old when Paul got it back in the 90s and by now is probably at least 60. Smooth & waxy, very different from the Braz on my '87 which is nicely figured but less dense. Pics are from the original owner- today is cloudy and I can't get shots that do the finish justice. It's just gorgeous, all korina except the fretboard. And old-style birds in abalone.

Love the Axe, but it bugs the bejeebus outta me that thing has freteless wonders and no neck or body binding...PLEASE tell me it doesn't have a thin neck profile. The wood grain, fretbaord wood finish( even though it's a poly type)and inlays are outstanding!

Not sure yet- wouldn't even consider it until I've flown the guitar at volume. I'm assuming they're standard McCartys: A4, 9.0K/8.0K. Haven't measured the DCRs yet. I have several A4 humbucker sets that I like well.

My first impression is, the guitar is fantastically lively but the pickups aren't quite as magical as the 57/08s in my other McCarty. That's setting the bar pretty high, of course. And while the 57/08s are among my very favorites, their strength lies in their rich mids and sort of sepiatone vibe- uncolored they're not. With A4s it's generally the opposite; they're fairly neutral by nature and can seem a little dry until you get used to them.

I'll give it some time.

The frets aren't small, actually they feel fairly substantial to me. The guitar is essentially unplayed- no fret wear whatsoever- so to me they feel hefty compared to my other PRSs. I'm accustomed to my #1 which is an '87; it's been a favorite for nearly thirty years and I'm dreading the fact that it'll soon need fret work. I've actually limited its play time for several years to help prolong the fret life. The others all have some time on them too, with varying degrees of wear.

Neck on this one is pattern regular, perfect for my tastes. Not thin, though less fat than my favorite Les Paul which has a thick '59 carve. I'm also used to the absence of neck binding since out of my five PRSs, only the 30th Anniversary has a bound fretboard. As for the finish, it's radiant. Very pretty in person. And I don't miss edge trim on the top, either- two of my others are all mahogany and they don't have trim, and another is a Starla, also without it.

It's funny about binding; I don't miss it on PRSs (or Strats). But a Les Paul without it looks kind of naked to me.

Thanks everybody. I'm really happy with this one. I love korina. This one just fell into my life; sometimes the best ones just appear by serendipity.

Thinking about naming her Miss Scarlet. But I need to get to know her a little better first.

SO nice! I've had several PRS's, and only kept the McCartys.

I love the Korina in red. I get tired of seeing it in blonde/yellow.

Yah, thanks. I have several other korinas: two Explorers, a Firebird and an old Moderne that I'm particularly fond of. But like most others, they're all vintage yellow. This is my first in a color and I really like the trans red. Very vivid and electric, it really glows. (I'm strongly drawn to brightly colored shiny objects; one girlfriend used to call it "the magpie effect." Naturally, guitars are no exception.)

But most important of course is that it plays wonderfully.

That is beautiful. Yet another red guitar turning me green. Now I'm really gassing for something cherry...
