Re: NGD x4: Pawnshop finds!
It just takes practice.
What I usually do is this:
- Set the Floyd to the exact position you want it to rest in, then completely block it from moving from that position (wedge something hard and not flexible in the cavity). Then tighten the springs all the way.
- Put the strings in the saddle, restring it, and tune to pitch. When tuning, the bridge should not move from the position you blocked it in. If it did, there wasn't enough spring tension.
- Lock the nut once it is perfectly in tune (make sure there is enough room for the fine tuners to work both ways for fine adjustment). Then, un-block the bridge. The bridge will probably move and all the strings will go sharp. Do not reach for the fine tuners or tuning pegs.
- Slowly release spring tension, and do so until the bridge is in the exact position you had blocked it in, and the strings will be relatively in tune. Adjust as needed with the fine tuners, and you're set!
