dont feel bad, some time ago I traded a perfectly working pickup for a pedal and when I really started to use the pedal I realized it wasnt working correctly. the guy said it was "modified" for "more body and tone"... BS

If you can't get a decent tone out of an LP style guitar (especially that one) at gig volume you either need a pickup change or you need to give up and start playing keyboard.
