Re: NGD

Thank you for showing us your extremely nice electric guitar.

Thank you, also, for having the common decency to actually BUY the darned thing before posting about it in this forum. ;)

Re: NGD

Very, very nice. If I ever wind up with a strat again, Suhr will be right at the top of my shopping list.

Re: NGD

There's no need to be a dick about it.

Just because it's not four times better doesn't mean it's not worth it. Plus, there's more to a guitar than tone. A Suhr plays, without a doubt, four times better than a Mexican Standard strat.

You'd know that if you played one.

At least get a Suhr/ Tom Anderson/ (insert any boutique guitar brand) of original design, not a copy. This particular one is still a clone, no matter how good it plays or sounds.

Re: NGD

As soon as you feel a Suhr, you immediately see why they cost so much.

If I could afford it, I'd get one without hesitation. They are fantastically crafted instruments inside and out. Like no other I've played.

I am not really sure about that. For all I know boutique guitar manufacturers operate in a small scale with every guitar crafted individually, as opposed to working in a large factory like Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, etc. I suppose 'lack of operation efficiency' and 'economies of scale', something like that, is factored into the price of the guitar. Plus, their marketing strategy, which positions themselves on the 'upper end' of the matrix.

Re: NGD

Verbentco - for the record I have a number of REAL Fenders. This is not my 1st Suhr either. I'm not disclosing any specific details but it was not really signficantly more expensive than an equivalent Custom Shop Stratocaster, probably less expensive. There's four main differences.

1 - SSCII system. Ain't going to get that on a Fender. Single coils are have no RF hum and sound like single coils. It works - no excuses.
2 - Torrified maple neck - Never seen that on a Fender. Charvel yes, but ever heard of that on a Fender. That neck is way more stable than regular maple.
3 - Built to MY spec. I don't have the star power to get that done with Fender (maybe if I went 2X + the price with a master built not to mention a long wait).
4 - Stainless Steel frets that have been leveled with a Plek machine. Try that with Fender.

Hopefully you can now get I was not interested in purchasing a new Fender.

For the others:

Actually I do have some lower end Fenders that play very well. I see the difference more in terms of feel - Fenders have an unique feel.

I can get that in a Suhr if I wanted (JS did work at Fender Custom Shop for a while). Suhrs are more of a fine tuned/hot-rodded feel - kind of like get all you can out of it, no expense spared.

A local luthier here can build a guitar just like that, or even better for less than a thousand bucks, right down to the exact milimeter of the CAD drawing. I am not deriding you man, I am serious. The only catch is you won't get the 'bragging rights' you would by going with Suhr, Fender, etc.

Ha good one! Where would I get the CAD file for the Suhr guitar down to the mm? Where would they get the torrefied wood? I guess the plek machine is out of the question. Where would I source the SSCII? Really...

For the other members - thanks for the comments. Its a really cool Strat style instrument.

I played a very traditional Strat styled Suhr at my local shop a few years back - and WOW-WEE

It was just super quality, felt...awesome from tip to tail.
