Well, technically Tuesday was my NGD, but I was able to use it at rehearsal last night to determine if the guitar sucked or not. It did not suck.

2012 American Standard strat in Charcoal Frost. The stock Fat 50's pickups are pretty nice! There's a slight volume dip on the B string from the staggered poles, but otherwise they sound great. If I ever run across a flat-pole set that sounds similar I might consider swapping them out, but these pickups do everything I want a strat to do. I was even using the bridge pickup last night and it didn't poke a hole in my eardrums through my IEMs, so that's pretty remarkable in my book.

Fender Fat Fifties Stratocaster pickups are a nice set. Aggressive enough to rock but still believably Fender. I recommend performing the seven sound switch mod.

I'm a sucker for rare colored Fenders, so I dig that one.

I remember years ago, I was listening to my 3 rosewood fretboard Am Std's. I did a listening test with a couple guitar player friends, to see which strat pickups they liked the most. Surfers vs. Fat 50's vs. Chubtone. Out of all the positions, the Fat 50's neck was a big favorite for the SRV type sound. The Surfer Custom bridge was the favorite bridge pickup.

I still haven't forgotten your tele builds. Any group shots of those?

Not yet, my guitars are scattered between home and rehearsal space. I'll make sure to take one ASAP though.

Beautiful guitar! I miss my Fender US Deluxe with Fat 50's--such great tone! I loved how the high notes didn't sound thin.

AJ, have you considered a MIDI controller for your Strymons? I have a Timeline and a Mobius and I find that it can get irritating managing the banks on both devices. However, part of my problem is that they're on the back row of my board, which you don't have a problem with, obviously.

I go back and forth, but haven't pulled the trigger on anything. At one point I was close to ordering a full-blown MIDI controlller/bypass looper (DPC-5) with presets to engage/disengage my other pedals, etc. I think now I'd probably just wind up with a DMC-3 or something small to make it easier to switch banks or scroll presets on the TimeLine. I only use 3-4 presets on the BigSky when playing live (I let it flex its muscles in the studio).

But, I use several presets on the TimeLine. I currently have the same tape delay preset I use a lot in preset B on the first several banks, with something unique next to it in each preset A slot. It might be a trem delay, lofi, analog, etc. It's not the best system, but it gets the job done for now.
