NGD

Fender stratocaster. The neck and pickguard is MIA, body is MIM. The neck has a V shape on the back. I don't have a trem arm. Maybe one of you guys has one? :)

The v neck is surprising. Kind of fills my hand like my firebird but at the same time feels thinner.

I got this guitar in a trade. Trades my red 1960a for it. I might get another 1965 410 so no big deal.

Nice strat, but what happened to the trussrod?

Re: NGD

What bridge is that MIM or American

GFS has those arms for like $5

+1

Kluson replica 'heads and a headstock truss rod adjustment opening smacks of MIM rather than MIA.

The headstock decal looks as if it could have been added post-factory.

The apparent length of the truss rod adjustment slot sleeve is what might be expected if a Fender MIM neck had its headstock face sanded to remove the original varnish and decal.

Re: NGD

MIM necks are 21 frets.

Could be a relabeled Modern Player, those have the vintage tuners and 22 frets.

Re: NGD

That looks like a mighty mite neck with a fender decal on it, not a MIA Fender neck.

the surface of the headstock was re-done, for whatever reason.

I'm almost sure that the neck is a mighty mite neck but someone put a sticker with a MIA serial number on the heel.

At any rate, it's a great neck. I just sanded it to make it a little smoother.

the pick guard is straight from an american standard.

Re: NGD

Anyway, there's absolutely nothing wrong with certain Mexican necks; I don't care for the standards but I've got two classic players, a strat and a jazzy, and both necks are wonderful! Enjoy your strat!
Cheers,
Chris

Re: NGD

Nothin' wrong with a good 'ol strat. I've been GASing for one lately myself. An American Standard in white with a white pickguard and maple fretboard is what I crave!

Re: NGD

Plus I don't think that the American necks have 2 string tees.

Definitely not an American Strat, but it is a beauty nonetheless. I agree that the "v" or "soft V" necks are amazingly comfortable...My absolute favorite neck. Whenever possible, I try to shape the necks on all of my builds with a "soft V".

Re: NGD

Nice. V necks are so underrated. They fit the hand so well.

I would happily play certain Fender MIM necks. (e.g. CP Fifties Strat, Baja Telecaster.) Provided that the pocket fit is snug, MIM neck on MIA body is infinitely preferable to MIA neck on MIM body. Recent Am Std Stratocaster pickups are a vast improvement on the flush pole, plastic bobbin type.

Re: NGD

I agree on the playability of the baja Tele. However, the last baja I compared 1:1 with my USA Deluxe Tele (loaded w/ TX specials, who cares for the noiseless) lost big time in the tone depertment. I did like the baja neck though, it was the (lack of) tone that made me decide not to take it home.

Is this posted in the right thread?

Re: NGD

There is - or, at least, was - another of Glenn's recent threads in which he was considering the purchase of a second Fender Stratocaster. One post hinted at possibly selling a Firebird to help finance an MIA Fender.

I long since gave up trying to keep track of Glenn's guitar dealings.
