NGD!

Finally payed off the Epiphone Les Paul Studio I've been looking at! Got it home, took of the old strings and checked the pups as all they said on the front was "Seymour Duncan" and I was curious. They ended up being an SH-4 JB bridge and an SH-2 Jazz model neck! According to the interwebs it's a great combo. And let me just say, compared to the pups in my Washburn X12 they sound absolutely amazing! It seems like it's in almost perfect condition, except for the tuners. The tuners for the D and A strings rattle pretty bad when the strings are played, does anyone know if this is fixable, and if not, where to get some new tuners?

Anyhow, I don't have much else to say, so here are some pics!

The tuner on the A string looks round on top while the others look flat, was this a used guitar? If so, maybe it came with chrome tuners originally and someone replaced them with something that didn't hold up so well.

Re: NGD!

i see i see and i like it. I think you already know the answers to your questions. :lmao:

Hehe. What's your opinion about cheap tuners? Or just go all the way if you're getting em'?

Nice score!

Thanks!!

I LOVE that color. That is a great looking guitar right there.

Same! As soon as I walked in to the shop I fell in love with it! I don't see too many Les pauls in this color. Or actually that many of any guitars in this color! Thanks!

I didn't expect so many replies so fast..

Woops! Forgot to mention, the tuner for the A string is a new replacement, I don't know anything about it but it is definitely different. And yeah, it was used.

Re: NGD!

Chuck all six. Buy new American, Japanese or German Kluson keystone replicas.

Re: NGD!

Thanks! The only thing I'm seeing is that something like these, on the rod, where it connects to the actual tuner block it has like cylinder, where the ones on it don't seem too.

Thanks!!

Thats the bushing for the tuner post, the ones in the link use bushings that thread into the body of the tuner, while the ones on you guitar have bushings that are pressed into the hole on the headstock. You can use the thread in style, you'll just have to pop the pressed ones out first. Alot of people have had problems with the Gibson Deluxe/ Klunson style tuners, I've only had one tuner go bad out of five guitars, but these might be a good choicehttp://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PMMH015

Alright, thanks for the info! Would something be wrong with the vintage ones? I just like the greenish clear knobs.

With tubners if you aim for gotoh you should be sweet. I use them normally.

Thanks! What do you think about the Gibson ones?

Re: NGD!

Looks nice! Some people will tell you the JB is no good in a Les Paul but I like it in any guitar - I have one in the bridge of my Epi Black Beauty.

On the tuners, if they work fine I wouldn't bother with replacing them. Try sticking some blu-tack on the ones that are rattling. I know that might seem rather tight-fisted and miserly but in a fixed bridge guitar I don't really think there's any need for fancy tuners, just ones that keep the guitar in tune.
