After taking a little time to think about all of the stuff I tried a few days ago. I decided to take a trip back and try all of the same guitars again. The results were identical to the other day. After 2 hours I walked out with the ltd bk-600. I'm usually not a big fan of signature gear but the specs are good and they work together to make a good sounding and playing guitar.
The neck it typical ltd thin U. It's a full thickness mahogany body and neck with an ebony board. The locking tuners hold tuning very well. The lace pickups are thick sounding but smooth. They cover a wide range of tones from good warm cleans to brutal heavy distorted tones. They remind me of a smoother invader.
The thickness of the body, the pickups and the tone pros bridge and tailpiece give it a lot of sustain. I can see it covering a lot of styles. But it excels at down tuned sludgey riffs. The set thru neck joint is very comfortable as well.

Hells yeah! So much right about that thing. What knobs, speed or domed/knurled?

Edit: if they're checkered domes I may have a problem, how many guitars are you supposed to hide @ your drummers house again?

Honestly, this post and the last made me want one. I looked up the specs, it seems pretty awesome, shoukd be an extremely versatile sonic masterpiece.

Fantastic axe, got me drooling when i saw the first news about this model.
The thin u neck is not for me, else i would be playing ltd/esp for sure.
Had a 2006 ec400at, what a guitar, my hand cramped up playing it for longer periods so i sold it.
Have fun with it.

Congrats. Looks great. I'm a big Mastodon fan. No lie, I've been eyeing the Sparrowhawk he played on Jimmy Kimmel. I've been wanting to build a reserve firebird tele for awhile now, this kinda tempts that GAS.

Anyhow, glad you like the guitar.

Re: NGD

Thanks guys the more I play it the more I like it. I'm still tweaking the action but it's getting there. The shop I bought it from has some of the sparrowhawks coming in in a few weeks. I plan to go check those out as well.

Re: NGD

^ Cool, let me know what you think.

If you look at all the signature models they've released (Mastodon), most of the specs are highly regarded as practical and pleasing. The "golden axe" explorer was well received. I know that a lot of people here liked the Brent Hinds epiphone V. Looking at your guitar, I know I would definitely dig and appreciate the neck joint/heel transition. Looks comfortable to play. Keep putting her through the paces \m/
