Nice SSL-1 Comment from John Frusciante

Re: Nice SSL-1 Comment from John Frusciante

I believe it might be my pickup height.

Nope its not your pickup height...swapping that wont give you instant frusciante.

This is your problem... you fix your chops and these and you will probably do fine with the SS1's you got now

I Fender Blues Jr, Fender Super Champ XD and a 15 watt Vox Valvetronic.

You're tilting at windmills chasing the release dates of pickups.

Re: Nice SSL-1 Comment from John Frusciante

That's a nice comment ofcourse, but it doesn't hide the fact Frusciante's a very mediocre and sloppy player.

and yet hes sold millions of records...

how many technically incredible players are unknown and bound to die in obscurity?

Smells like sour grapes to me.

Here was the problem. I adjusted the pickups then added a boost pedal on the clean. Just before the breakup is where it's at.

He may be from a technical point of view but for me RHCP without him is like they are covering themselves, I just like the songs better and I listen to them since 1991.

Re: Nice SSL-1 Comment from John Frusciante

I just wanted to update on my side. After studying still shots and messing with pickup height, I found that 4.4mm on the bass side and 4mm on the treble side to be the closest to JF warm, sparkle sound that I've wanted. Also have the overdrive or booster pedal set right before the breakage. I'm very happy with it and hope I have helped somebody out there ! :)

Re: Nice SSL-1 Comment from John Frusciante

I have played SSL-1s in MANY a guitar (although never one of my own as I always end up with sth more elaborate like the StraBro90s) and I can honestly say that these are what FIRST comes to mind when I think "typical vintage Strat quack" (and I do mean this in the BEST possible way).

To me, they're simply the pickups that all other SCs are compared against :)

+1

I have owned SSL-1's and whenever somebody comes along asking for vintage Strat tone I always have to suggest the SSL-1's. The first Duncan I ever bought was a Custom Custom for a Strat. About a year later I ordered an SSL-1 and a STK-S4 for that same Strat. I still use and love the STK-S4 but if I had a Strat playable right now (it's in parts at the moment) that SSL-1 would be in there and I might even consider making it a SSL-1 set for the whole guitar. I love the SSL-1's, as PF said, very underrated pickups.

Re: Nice SSL-1 Comment from John Frusciante

I'm not a big fan of Petrucci.

It's just that that image is the perfect response.

Re: Nice SSL-1 Comment from John Frusciante

Those are some serious sour grapes dude

Blabla, this is getting seriously offtopic. I'm not impressed by Frusciante, although RHCP have some really enjoyable tunes. I despise anything jazz and I don't like Petrucci.

I do love Dave Murray, Slash and a fair bit of Malmsteen though :) And many others.

Please stop trolling, troll :spam:

Tell me just what are you doing by slagging Frusciante?

That's some gall you got to dish it but not take them to accuse me of being a troll when I'm not the slagging people.
