Nickel Wound & Pure Nickel

Ok, now I know the difference tone wise between the two but my question is: Which strings are pure nickel and which are the same because when I buy a set of Pure Nickels from EB from example the plain strings have the same packaging as in a package of nickel wound, so in a pure nickel set only the wound strings are pure nickel? So what are the plain ones made out of then?

"Pure nickel" should mean "the winding the pure nickel", aka they are the same.

You can't make the actual string core out of pure nickel.

So its only the wound strings that are different, not the plain ones, those remain the same?

That might or might not be the case. All I can say is that pure nickel can't be shaped into strings that would withstand the tension of a guitar string.

I though something was fishy. I use Gibson Vintage Reissues, and they claim to use a Swedish steel core. Wouldn't be very vintage if they were supposed to use nickel, now would they?

Pure nickel isn't strong enough to withstand the pressure on guitar strings. Even the wound nickel strings are wrapped on a steel core.

What about the plain strings? Are they the same on regular sets as pure nickel sets? You'd think so right, both would be steel.

There's very little difference between plain strings in different sets anyway, other than diameter. But only the manufacturer knows if they don't document it.

I always figured they were just plain steel.
