Wow, that is a great tuning. I know Robert Fripp tunes his 6 sting like this: CGDAEG.

Yes, aka New Standard Tuning or Guitar Craft Tuning. A mix of 5ths and 4ths that extends the range of the guitar a few notes farther in each direction. Have you played much in his tuning? It yields a different texture to your playing, and suggest new directions and shapes for playing. Will definitely break you out of your stale old patterns if you find yourself in a rut.

I have been playing the mandocello since I got home from work. I am finding it sounds better through the bass amp so far. The low C is more balanced.

I haven't experimented that much with it...just a bit. It really requires a good setup with the right gauge of strings to get the most of it, so you sort of need a guitar dedicated to it. I have it preset as a tuning in my Variax Acoustic, but it is pretty out there. He makes it sound great, though.

The thing that blows me away about Fripp is that when he's using that tuning, he can still play all of his parts that were written for standard tuning. The man has chops.

Indeed he does. He has modified some parts of the 80s material, or gives some of the non-playable parts (very few) to 2nd guitarist Jakko (who has a style about as far away from Fripp and Belew as possible, but he does a great job).

Banged on it with some high gain and a bit of chorus. It sounds amazing. Controlling the feedback is tricky but fun and very musical if you pull it off right.
