No sound out of my DSL 100

Re: No sound out of my DSL 100

I haven't touched the preamp tubes and hope I don't have to yet. But thanks for all the great advice.

Re: No sound out of my DSL 100

I changed the tubes and I have the same problem. Tube number one does not light up? Starting to get a bit frustrated.

OK, weird. Sounds like the heater wire became disconnected. Are any of the preamp tubes not lighting up? Can you take a pic of the tubes with the lights in the room shut off, no flash?

Re: No sound out of my DSL 100

I just drove into Boston and dropped it off with a tech. He is going to go through the whole amp and bias the new tubes.

Re: No sound out of my DSL 100

:) Hope it is nothing more than just the burnt out tube!
(meaning that the reason to no sound is a mundane issue!)
Considering that he swapped the tubes and the same position is still not lighting up it's probably something more serious. It sounds like the heater pin on the tube isn't getting any voltage. That's why I asked if the 12ax7s were lighting up, since I'm not sure if the heaters on that are wired in series or parallel and how the link is physically wired or if it's traces on a board. Could be anything from a wire having a cold solder joint on a board to the pin in the socket getting pushed out or something similar.

Re: No sound out of my DSL 100

So the fuse on the board was blown. Tom replaced it and biased the new tubes. Still no sound. He let it heat up a bit and bingo tone. That didn’t satisfy him so he checked out the rectifier bridge. Apparently the one Marshall uses is small and right up against the preamp tubes and the board. They tend to come loose from the amp heating up and cooling down. Tom likes to upgrade them with a larger bridge that has more room to breathe. He said he has done dozens of them and has not seen an amp back.

He did crap his pants when I said I was dropping off the Quad Reverb when I picked up the Marshall. When I said I could remove the chassis and just bring that in he was a bit relived.

Time to pick up a Gorilla.

You just can't kill those things :)
Yes you can
But it takes several good tosses onto concrete.

That said, I didn't really plug it in afterward
