Non-USA Pickup Giveaway!

I'm feeling more curmudgeonly than usual tonight, and I'm gonna do something constructive about it. First, let me start with the following, for everyone who's ever typed "lower 48 only" in a sale/freebie ad.

:fing25: :fing25: :fing25:

Now that we've got that out of the way, the freebie will be the winner's choice of either a Quarter Pound Staggered or a Duckbucker. So far as I know, both are bridge models. I got them as part of a multiple pickup deal, and I can't see myself having any use for either. I was planning to put them both up on ebay, but then I saw Erlend's "yay, my pickup arrived!" thread, and thought screw it, some non-American deserves a bit of freebie goodness, since the yanks don't share. :>

So, hmm... how do I determine the winner? Well, initially I was gonna make this for Canadians only, but then I thought, nah, might as well include the Euro and elsewhere folks as well, since they're just as ostracized in most Trading Post sales. That said, I do tend to be prejudiced towards my countrymen, cause really, we're just better than the rest of yez.

Egotistical ravings aside, hmm... ok, I got it: turn me on to a really awesome new (to me) band or artist. To give you an idea of what I'm into, Tom Waits, Ween, Fu Manchu, Sabbath, Clutch, Public Enemy, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Blind Boy Fuller, Ben Folds, P-Funk, Jug Bands (Kweskin, Even Dozen, Cannon's Jug Stompers, Yank, etc), John Prine, Moistboyz, Mr. Bungle, White Cowbell Oklahoma, Motorhead... these are all bands that I've gotten maniacally into at various times.

As you can see, I'm into a wide range of styles, moods and instrumentations, so the field is pretty much wide open. There are very few styles I hate, but some things fill me with the urge to kill, among them excessive use of synth layers ala most 70s fusion (I don't care how talented Weather Report are, they suck!), and I've really got a massive hate on for pitch corrected vocals. It makes me want to start walking around punching, not just the artists and producers, but the people who listen to it as well. It's a pavlovian reaction...

Anyways, I can't offer much more guidance than than that. You're welcome to submit more than one band for consideration, but don't submit too many, or I'll just see a torrent of names, get confused and move on to the next guy. I'm not likely to go out and buy any CDs sound unheard, so bands with samples available at their website or through <ahem> other channels are good candidates.

Alternatively, you can tell me a really funny joke or send me the url to a really funny website/video that makes me laugh out loud in my chair and then call my friends to make them watch/read it too. But good, new music that gets me energized (or saddened, but in the good, exquisitely-sad-music kind of way) will definitely trump a funny joke.

As previously mentioned, this freebie is open to anyone who lives outside of the United States, especially the damned lower 48. Folks in Alaska and Hawaii, you're not banned, but you're suspect. I'm watching you. Postage will be paid by me, but no guarantees are made, other than that I will pack it well and ship it by the absolute cheapest possible method. :>

Ready? Go!

Re: Non-USA Pickup Giveaway!

Re: Non-USA Pickup Giveaway!

I would encourage you to give Wolfmother a try, it could very well sadden you or entice you to start walking around punching:laugh2:

Re: Non-USA Pickup Giveaway!

Damn....Turbonegro and Wolfmother both taken! Now where do I go from here? I've been listening to early Danzig lately - I forgot just how amazing they were. And you can never go wrong with old Anthrax or Corrosion of Conformity.

Sorry for listing a bunch, but it had to be done. Go Oilers!

Re: Non-USA Pickup Giveaway!

You have to listen to Joseph Arthur and "Iron and Wine"....

Both are really smoother folkish music, Iron is pretty much basic music (guitar, banjo, percussions) and so are early Joseph recording, while his latest stuff has more experimental layers to 'em...

Re: Non-USA Pickup Giveaway!

Bump... kinda surprised by the low turnout, but I guess this forum is mostly Americans. Anyways, I've got a front runner at the moment, but I'm gonna leave this open for another day or so, so get them late entries in.

http://youngbloodbrassband.com/site/site_index.html

These guys would be close to my fave band......great musicality, give em a go. They fill the void between public enemy, rock, and .....a brass band!

And you know you wanna make friends with an AUSSIE!!!! :):):)

Go to the multimedia section and download some of their older stuff....i think its better than the stuff on the front page.

Well im from argentina, south america, and im gonna recommend you 3 bands from here, hope you can get to their music

these are the names of the records

pescado rabioso - artaud (every song in the album is really good)
(if youre intro prog rock, maybe luis alberto spinetta (pescado's frontman) - durazno sangrando is gonna fit you better)

soda estereo - comfort y musica para volar

those first two are from here, and the next one im gonna present, maybe you already know, but its worth a shot

phish - a picture of nectar (the song llama is amazing to me haha)
(kinda prog, they jam a LOT live)

anyways, give em a try, i dont know if its your style, but its good music for sure.

thank you and good luck

pd: if youre into trash, or heavy metal, maybe you should try hermetica, haha, very very raw, but great at the same time (try the song, destruccion)
aaand, i gues you already heard the dub side of the moon (easy star all stars reaggae outtake on the pfloyd album, just marvelous)
