I'm feeling more curmudgeonly than usual tonight, and I'm gonna do something constructive about it. First, let me start with the following, for everyone who's ever typed "lower 48 only" in a sale/freebie ad.

:fing25: :fing25: :fing25:

You know, while it's your right to give your stuff away to whomever you want, and I can definitely afford whatever I want, just wanna explain what may be the reason why it's always "lower 48 only".

Here's my problem. I leave for work at 7am. I don't get home until 5:30 pm on a GOOD day. I get a 1/2 hour lunch. When shipping internationally, the paperwork they give you takes at least fifteen minutes to fill out. Then you've got another ten or so on line and getting out. You can see that's too long for my lunchtime, and even someone who get an hour lunch, that's a bit long. I've got 2 and 3 year old daughters so asking my wife to go to the post office and go through this and then have my kids sit doing nothing for another few, well just don't wanna go there. Sometimes I have to work at a moments notice Saturday, so that's usually no good. The post office is open from 8:30am to 5 pm, so you see my dilema. Lower 48 gets you in and out in a few minutes.

Anything I send UPS is cool because they will fax me the form ahead of time and we can fill it out before pickup, but most things are small and way more expensive through UPS than the post office and of course people don't want to pay the extra postage. And it's not like a dollar more, UPS is a lot more.

That's MY reason. Nothing political or sinister feelings towards anyone else. So rght back atcha.
:fing25: :fing25: :fing25:

Gotta tell you I'm sad to see that you felt the need to explain in so much detail why you think we suck and you know what? Politics don't belong on this website so next time just say will not ship to the lower 48 and keep your politics to yourself. There's another forum called The Sound Room for that. Let's keep these forums for music only, agreed? :smack:

Re: Non-USA Pickup Giveaway!

Lower 48 giveaways of pickups do SUCK! It is almost the same amount to ship something to Europe as sending priority in the 48. Kudo's to you Revjtoad! When I have done giveaways I always do them worldwide. Hey, if I am feeling like giving something away I might as well pay the extra buck to make it fair to all of the forum brothers all over the globe. I like to keep things on an even playing field you know. :) :) :)

75lespaul, you have a right to your opinion and I am not going to bash you for that bro but, I am not sure what customs forms you are filling out for something as small as a pickup???? It only takes me 30 seconds to fill out the form for that. USPS of course, I have never shiped overseas via UPS or Fed-Ed. Maybe they have alot more paperwork???

Dude no need to get heated this way... all he basically said is that it'S just fair to have a giveaway where the 48 lower states can't join opposed to the "normal" lower 48 only givaways... no politics involved...

I can dig that, though in some cases, the deals people offer make it worthwhile for me to throw in an extra $10 over and above actual shipping costs if someone is willing to take the time to ship to me - in a couple of cases people have agreed to sell me stuff when I asked and made an offer of extra S&H money, and in other cases people have flat out refused to even consider shipping outside of the US for any price - I can't really find any real fault, cause it's a free country, but it's disappointing sometimes, cause Duncan pups, for instance, are VERY pricey in music stores up here, and seeing the type of deals that get tossed around in the trading post, considering that a used pickup is pretty much as good as a new one, is kinda like standing outside a candy store with no pennies.

Basically, I felt left out of the fun, and rather than just sit here and bitch, I thought I'd do something constructive. My use of smileys for bird-flipping should've tipped anyone off that I'm not really sitting here seething at yall. In short, no offense intended mang, just trying to equalize the balance of things a bit. :>

By the way, I got cousins in Joisey, I love visiting there.

Re: Non-USA Pickup Giveaway!

You might not like my suggestions but I can't help my musical background and tastes! Also, I'm thinking really well known bands like Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Cream etc are out, due to this being about finding fresh bands, right?

Rodrigo y Gabriela - Extremely talented spanish guitarist duo, here's the twist, they kind of do complex heavy metal sometimes, on 2 classical guitars only! www.rodgab.com

Muse - Hey, they're well known on this side of the atlantic at least, but they're a real treat if you've not heard of them and are into your amazing riff driven rock. www.muse-official.com www.muse.mu

The Black Keys are a blues duo like The White Stripes except the drummer doesn't suck. They also sound very delta which is only a good thing. http://theblackkeys.com/index.php

Aikawa Nanase 七瀬相川 who has gone a bit stale now, but used to be a really cool rock singer. She's worked with Slash and some guy from Metallica I don't care about.

Shiina Ringo 椎名林檎 who is my heroine, she's a singer/songwriter that has made 7 really clever and catchy albums so far, and is constantly innovating and always sounding fresh. She now fronts the band Tokyo Jihen 東京事変

As you're not likely to come across the music of Nanase or Ringo, is it okay to post mp3 clips?

I'm gonna give you an answer intead of responding with the obvious sarcasm you gave me.

Have you ever filled out the international shipping paperwork at the USPS? It's not feasable with the period of time I have to do it. It doesn't matter whether it's a PICKUP or a pickup truck, you've got red tape. It may not have seemed like it, but I also think that leaving anyone out of a giveaway is baloney because of where they live. I was talking about ebay by the way where I'm concerned, but that is loaded with lower 48 only as well, but this guy just seemed to go overboard with the ranting. I took offense. I try to treat everyone fairly and I hate to see anyone excluded. He's not excluding the lower 48 because it's a problem for him to ship, he's just being spiteful and that plain sucks. Why should some poor kid here in the USA be excluded? Because he's trying to get back at everyone who says "lower 48 only"? Just sat wrong with me.

The giveaways are great for people who wouldn't be able to get this stuff otherwise, but our forum brothers should be a little more open to including people from other countries if they can. Key phrase here is if they can.

I'm not heated, but at first I felt like it was another anti-USA rant, and I get enough of that on the news and in real life. Sorry if I offended anyone, but I try to speak out where I feel wronged. And I don't feel bad for me, but being 42, I feel bad for the teens that bust their asses for no money and would really appreciate something like this only to be told they can't be a part because they're American.

I can dig it. And I can see why you'd be pissed. Here--check out this joke, and hopefully it will make you fall out of your chair laughing. If it does, consider including the lower 48 in your next giveaway. :smokin: < better?

An old Italian man lived alone in the country. He wanted to dig his tomato
garden, but it was very hard work as the ground was hard. His only son,
Vincenzo, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a
letter to his son and described his predicament.
Dear Vincenzo,
I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my
tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a
garden plot. If you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would dig
the garden for me.
Love: Pa

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Pa:
Not for nothing, but don't dig up that garden. That's where I buried THE BODIES.
Love Vinnie

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up
the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man
and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Pa,
Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love Vinnie

Re: Non-USA Pickup Giveaway!

Check out The Weakerthans and Greg Macpherson. Both are Canadian.

The songs I recommend the most are Everything Must Go by the Weakerthans and Company Store by Greg Macpherson.

As for my joke, which you've probably already heard:

A man walks in to a bar and starts drinking. After a few he pukes all over his shirt and says to the bartender "Crap my wife is going to kill me for ruining my new shirt". The bartender says "Stick a twenty in your pocket and tell her someone else puked on you and gave you money to get it cleaned"

So the man finishes drinking and goes home. When he gets home his wife sees his shirt and starts screaming furiously at him. Then his wife finds the money and the man explains that someone else puked on him and gave him 20 dollars to get it cleaned. "But there are two twenties in here" she said...
"Oh yeah, he also **** my pants"

Both are from my hometown of Winnipeg, actually. My girlfriend is heavy into the Weakerthans - I didn't like em so much until I heard the following song:

One Great City by The Weakerthans

late afternoon another day is nearly done
a darker grey is breaking through a lighter one
a thousand sharpened elbows in the underground
that hollow hurried sound of feet on polished floor
and in the dollar store the clerk is closing up
and counting loonies trying not to say
i hate winnipeg

the driver checks the mirror seven minutes late
crowded riders' restlessness enunciates
the guess who suck, the jets were lousy anyway
the same mood every day
and in the turning lane
someone's stalled again
he's talking to himself
and hears the price of gas repeat his phrase
i hate winnipeg

up above us all,
leaning into sky
our golden business boy
will watch the north end die
and sing 'i love this town'
then let his arching wrecking ball proclaim:
"i...hate...winnipeg"

That last verse refers to the Golden Boy, who stands proudly atop our provincial legislature:

But enough about this place. It sucks.

I dunno what it's like on your side of the border, but I ship to the US all the time, and the paperwork is an extra five minutes, tops. It's basically one extra shipping form: My address, receiver's address, package contents/origin/value/weight and a signature to the effect that what I say is true. It's a pain in the arse, sure, but it's really not that big a deal.

Re: Non-USA Pickup Giveaway!

Also, the winner has been selected, I'm just waiting to hear which pickup he wants before I make the announcement. Thanks yall, I feel like I should be sending all of you something, cause I dug a whole bunch of the stuff that got posted. I'm the real winner. :>

There's been a ton of awesome bands/artists posted, and like I said, I'm the real winner here. That said, Sasquatch are the most awesome by the sheer force of their badass heaviness - they're like Kyuss' best material, only with good production. Thanks mang.

Kommerz chose the Duckbucker, which will be posted shortly. Lemme know how it works out for ya.

Thanks man, I find Sasquatch's tone really good too, and they seem to be as obsessed with good gear as we are in here (a nice LP trough a Mojave can't be bad) ;)
