None of the pickups are working help plz

I just put inn a new Antiquity surfer single coil in the bride paired with dimarzio singles in the neck and middle. I'm an amateur at wiring and soldering, suggestions?

Re: None of the pickups are working help plz

There are a few things that could be wrong but it's hard to guess like this.

1- Do all your solder joints look good? (shiny? solid? nicely covering the surfaces?)
2- Go over your wiring diagram a few times again and double-triple check your wiring against it. "yeah but I'm sure everything's right"... you have no idea how many pedal/amp builders say this and then realize they made a mistake or two somewhere...I include myself in those btw.
3- If you can manage it, post pics so we can have a look.

Don't worry, we'll get it all working...and be proud that you undertook this by yourself.

"None of the pickups are working?"

Got to be at the output jack or the ground.

Re: None of the pickups are working help plz

I'd guess maybe a short/touching on the output. Or the switch has no output connected.

Re: None of the pickups are working help plz

Name that is a user-
Do not feel bad. I once posted a huge badmouth about a company's product only to find out that after "triple checking it" I was looking at it upside down. I apologized to the Manufacturer and the forum. Felt like such an idiot. Plus I've done the thing I was *****ing about a hundred times, or more.

Re: None of the pickups are working help plz

I'll post pics of it tomorrow, maybe one of the pots overheated?

We're gonna change your name to Pot Smoker until you get soldering down lol!
Don't feel bad, we've all cooked pots and made mistakes, it's called learning. WE ALL commend you for trying to learn and DYI..
I respect someone 100 times more that tried to fix it themselves and broke it than someone who pays someone to fix all their problems for them..
I'm with PF Darkside, it's gotta be a ground or the output jack connection..
Do you get a hum or any noise from the guitar?

Re: None of the pickups are working help plz

I've wired just about everything backwards, and still do, if I don't get enough sleep. Take your time, and if you start to feel frustrated, stop. I agree that it sounds like some output problem. Pictures always help.

Re: None of the pickups are working help plz

I just discovered that the output jack wire came disconnected. I'm gonna attempt to put it back in place and see what that does.

Re: None of the pickups are working help plz

yea.. hum would mean that its a grounding issue..i.e no ground or the output jack is wired backwards last project i forgot a ground.. all she would do was hum.. no sound= something is short circuited and the signal is going to ground.. im sure there are other things it might be though.. these are the only ones i can think of atm

Re: None of the pickups are working help plz

there is already a jack wire connected to a pot. are there two grounds?

only 2..the signal wire and ground.. the ground has to be connected which it look like it is

still say something is shorting out on the shielding.. had a similar issue so i took a DMM and started poking around.. one of the tabs from my pot was grounding out on the shielding..

curious: after examining the pic...1 question
where is the signal wire from the jack connected too and what color is it.. i know where i expect to see it connected.. and it doesnt appear to be there..hard to tell on the pic.. something just dont look right

Re: None of the pickups are working help plz

I would agree with all of the above, probably a short to ground.
You might try a very standard troubleshooting technique: Isolate and solve, it might be a bit of a pain in the ass but when stuck it really works well. Disconnect all but one pup and get that working first, then add the others one at a time. You can bypass everything and go direct from pup to jack just to see if there is sound, then add in the switch, then the pots and so forth. In the temp stages of troubleshooting you don't even need to solder the connections (just to see where the problem is), if you have clip leads use them otherwise you can wrap connections when possible (saves melting insulation among other things).

right on.. break things down to its smallest component and start adding parts until the problem is discovered.. always a possibility of fixing it inadvertently just by rewiring lol
