A buddy installed one and I heard it Friday night. Seems like it adds a lot of tone variety to his Stratocaster. Any pros or cons on this contraption? My single short exposure to it made me think about spending $50for one.

I use the EMG-SPC on a couple of guitars. This does not pile on quite as many dBs as the Clapton MBK. It also takes up less space.

The advantage of the Claption boost is it has a 10 db clean boost that's always on, so the guitar is generally louder. The mid boost adds 15 more db as you dial it in.
It's a pain to install, it needs routing, and it's a lot of wires

I have it fitted to my G&L Legacy at the moment. It allows me to cover a lot of ground with one guitar.

On one Bitsacaster that I parted out, a previous owner had rounded one corner off the Clapton MBK PCB so that it could be crammed - and I mean CRAMMED - into the standard control cavity. Inevitably, this created problems with the proximity of the PCB to the selector switch contacts. This, in turn, had been "remedied" using copious amounts of self-adhesive insulation tape. Duh!
