Not joking... How do you move a 4x12 cab?

I've only ever played and moved 2x12 cabs and combos (and smaller) and I have a slight desire to upgrade amps. I was thinking about a 4x12 in passing then thought (beside the ridiculousness of playing one nowadays) how do you physically move it to rehearsal and gigs? I mean, you need a minivan right? And they weigh in at 100lbs with slightly awkwardly placed handles... I could see 25 year old me muscling it around but maybe not 37 year old me...

So in all seriousness, how do you move one with out roadies and a tour van?

Casters. And learn to use the handles; they're not as awkwardly placed as they seem.

truck, van, wagon, or other decent size vehicle. and it sucks to move em. thats why i use a 1x12 combo for damn near everything. im lazy and it sounds great

there is a huge difference between a Ply 4x12 like a 1960 Marshall, and a MDF cabinet like a 5150.
One is manageable, the other is a complete ballbuster.

I've seen guys get a 4x12 into a compact hatchback.

I use an Orange PPC412. It weighs 102lbs, but it's not as big as most 4x12s. Nevertheless... 102.

I use one of these, and it works really well... cheaper than most casters and requires no installation.

You can buy one HERE.

^ I've moved pianos upstairs before by myself with one of those things using leveredge . Best deal on those is at Harbor Freight.

Ok, I get the casters, my Mesa Combo is on casters and weighs 98lbs. Definitely can roll it around. Getting that thing up and down stairs is a *****. My guitar area is in the basement and the new jam space is in a basement as well. Do you basically need to double team it for stairs?

I didn't realize a wagon/hatch would fit a 4x12... that's cool.

Double team it for stairs or get a two wheeler.

Re: Not joking... How do you move a 4x12 cab?

I think I once put a 4x12 in the surprisingly large trunk of a VW Golf. Might have been a 4x10.
Other than that, a two wheel dolly cart (no clue if they're actually called that way) are pretty unvaluable for lugging heavy gear.

Re: Not joking... How do you move a 4x12 cab?

Oversized mesa fits in my buick's trunk or backseat no problem. (backseat needs it on it's side)
Getting it in and out and to and from is another story.

When there's stairs, especially long and steep like in older houses, that's a two-man job.
I've done stairs alone with a recto-cab and it's not fun,,,,,,,nor would it even be safe for most.

A Buick? Like one of these then?

Re: Not joking... How do you move a 4x12 cab?

My Marshall 1960A fits in the trunk of my car. For a 4x12, it's on the lighter side. I can see Orange or ENGL 4x12 owners struggling with the weight.

Re: Not joking... How do you move a 4x12 cab?

Drape a Uhaul blanket over the edge of your trunk, bed, or backseat, grab it by two wheels, and hoist it in. Sliding up is easier than lifting.

It could be worse, ie, Hammond B3, Ampeg 810, etc

37? Oooes still a young buck? As for your question. Don't. My 2x12 recto is hard enough.

+1

These days my rig consists of a Mini Jubilee head and an Egnater Rebel 112X in any room where I can get away with it. If I need to bring out the big guns, I'll haul the 2555 and 2x12. Hauling 4x12s is for those young (and foolish) enough to put up with it. I haven't sold my 4x12 yet, but I've only played through it maybe 5 times in the last decade so that day is coming.

If I wanted to, I could press my Carvin 4x12 cab.
Yeah, I know. Bragging.😎

Re: Not joking... How do you move a 4x12 cab?

Haven't used a 4-12 in decades, and haven't missed it either. The last "big" rig I had was 2 Avatar 2-12s and sounded killer. Can't imagine ever wanting to move one again by myself, but yeah, I've gotten a Marshall 4-12, head, and my other gear in the back of a '89 Civic hatchback. By mself.

Now days I would probably pull something...
