So the story ends at "Hanging out on Billy Idol's Tour Bus". Let's go in flashback....
The Chicago Pizza Place: So I see a Facebook post from a guy I have known for ~15 years or so. Guitar guy. He is eating pizza at a place just down the street from. I drop my stuff and bust a move down the road, but he is gone. I ask where he is, and he sends me an address of some house not too far away.
The Mystery House: Now, this guy is from the west coast, and I have no idea what he is doing at a house in some skeezy area of Tampa. I think I'm being punched, but it isn't too far away, so start heading over.
The Amp: Get a vid of some old Fender amp, and it says "Let's move this thing!" What the hell???
The Proposition: Dude then asks me if I can take him back to his hotel. I'm a little worried it is a proposition...
At The House: I arrive at the house and the door opens and I see the dude in the living room playing an old Fender guitar and amp. I go in and sit down, and there is some old dude there, my friend, and we shoot the musical breeze for a while. No idea what is going on, but a cool hang - bonus; Real Fender Tremolo!
Craigslist: Then the guy pulls out some cash and buys the amp. Aha! I'm at a Craigslist deal. I'm thinking this is a damn long way to go to buy some obscure fender amp...even if it has Tremolo. So I wander into a CL deal going down. Incidentally, old dude and his wife, who can't know this guy, and especially me, let me in. Trusting people!
Drive to the Hotel: We load up the amp head, and head to the hotel. I find out now exactly why I'm walking into the CL deal - besides the fact that I'm cheaper than an Uber! So it turns out this guy is in town doing tech work for Steve Stevens. They are staying on Clearwater Beach, maybe 10 miles away. Anyway, some cool conversation.
The Show: He asks if I'm going to the show. I'm thinking I missed some cool backstage passes here. Maybe not...didn't matter - I had a show that night.
The Bus: As we pull up to the hotel, some roadies are getting on the bus, so we hop out and he asks if I want to go on the bus. Of course...Piles blow, trashy women, guitars - hell yeah!!! Actually wasn't there long, and I have to say - the bus was super clean.
Anyway - dude heads off to get some rest and I head home.
Picks: I got some cool Steve Stevens guitar picks, and a little time spent hanging with a guy I have not seen in a long time!
Did you guys know the one and only Frank Falbo is tech-ing for Steve Stevens on Billy Idols tour????
