Nothing rhymes with Orange ...

... but they sure do make cool amps. :)

I tried my first Orange recently - the AD30 2-channel head. I was really impressed. It has a very distinct tone, but with a definite British flavour.

Any of you use an Orange on a regular basis? Which one, and what do you think of it?

Re: Nothing rhymes with Orange ...

I went to try one in a music store because I had a nice guitar in my hands and was about o play it.. but it wasn't plugged in and I didnt feel like annoying the staff so I played the JCM 2000 instead.

I don't know what your tastes are like, but if you're anything like me you would have preferred the AD30 big time over the JCM 2000.

Was this store L&M by any chance? Don't feel bad about annoying those bozos ... they deserve it. :)

Re: Nothing rhymes with Orange ...

I heard that the tiny terror aint coming out for a long time in the states. Totally sucks cuz I always loved the Orange sound but never wanted to spend too much money on it or get one I couldn't crank at all. Tried the Rockerverb head, I forgot which one, maybe the 50 watt and it was great. Best Pre-amp distortion ever, blew any JCM2000 Marshall out of the water. Had that super british tone and had that tubey vibe even with the volume very low. Not too buzzy or harsh. Clean was better than any Marshall I've played too. Very voxey with the glassy top end, soft bass and extended mids. I also tried the AD30TC very briefly and was impressed. Cant say much because I played it for literally a minute and didnt get to dial anything in. I would love to try the Tiny Terror with some Fane speakers for that extra agression and great tight bottom end...

The ones in my store are cool.. except the retarded tech. But I was testing a guitar so I decided, rather than annoy then, plug it into something with a tone I recognise.

Doorhinge.

Pronounce Orange.

Or-inge.
Door-hinge.

I dont hear O-range being said.

Re: Nothing rhymes with Orange ...

I've got a Rocker 30 head which is a smokin amp. Unforunately, due to me reopening the biz, I have to sell it to raise some cash (check the trading forum). All the Oranges I've played through had stellar tone.

Re: Nothing rhymes with Orange ...

I played one in a store; I don't know which one, but I was pretty excited about it. My friend's band (Early Man) uses them, and live they sounded pretty great in the club. I think the best set-up would be one dude in a band using the Orange, and the other something a tad less 70s sounding to mix it up. There's such a heavy 70s vibe oozing from them that no matter what I play through them, it comes out like stoner metal.

You know what's funny...when I tried out amps at a store recently, I preferred a little solid state Orange practice amp to many tube heads I played through that day.

Yes, that was a good call. If you're testing the guitar, best to stick with what you know. Next time you're in there, though, grab a Les Paul and plug it into the Orange. It's a fun amp.

Sucks that it won't be out for a while in the states...gives me more time to get my cash together for it then! :laugh2: The Tiny Terror A/B'd with my Stinger would be tonal nirvana. Oh the possibilities...
