Now THIS is how I like my amps built!

That does look cool MRID.....I'll have to post some pics of the inside of my amp that Jeff Seal converted.....it looks awsome.

Jeez, that Jeff Seal mod isn't a mod, it's a rebuild! Nice! Looks so much easier to service with that lug board and bigger components.

Interesting to see the inside of that Mesa power amp. Those amps are just crushers!

I gotta find pictures of the inside of a Matchless. It's the most overbuilt amp I've ever seen. Before installing the components, they cover all bare wire with teflon tubing, and the wiring bundles have neatly tied ribbon every inch. It looks like the project amp of a tweaker who hasn't slept in days. They only make about 40 amps a month, so their crew of 7 guys is dedicated to the equivalent of one chassis a day.
They outsource their cabinetry, so you can see why a Matchless cost $3200 new.

Yeah, but with PCB it really depends on what quality they have used for it.
Soundwise it really means nothing, it is just easier to repair a PTP amp, and being a Hiwatt owner one gets to agree with the Military spec construction, mine has lasted quite a few years now, and the work is formidable, they only made 40 amps a month back then in the glory days.
Well Bogner use good power and output trafo's and the filtering looks good, the PCB has neat connections and reasonable thick paths for the current.
Don't like that the preamp tubes are mounted on the PCB though.
Minor thing.

Yeah....it's pretty much gutted, and it sounds so much better! I got the entire original PC board and all componenets back, and it can be re-installed and back to stock should I ever decide to sell it....which will be NEVER.

There is nothing wrong with PC board construction as several have stated, provided that the tubes are chassis mounted (my opinion only) and that the PC board is of high quality and all connections are well shielded. Bogner, Mesa and others have proven that. Hell even my JCM 800 in it's stock form had all the tubes chassis mounted....that even says something about Marshall from as recently as the mid 80's. PTP is easier to work on for quick repairs....it all just comes down to the quality of compents and the care taken in the building process. I am sure a fan of PTP...but I wouldn't snub a Bogner....thats for sure.

Reinholdt Bogner is one of those guys that knows amps forward and backwards.
Then, like an audio genious, he figured out how to design a circuit that still retains the beauty of a handbuilt amp, but most of that circuitry controls the vast number of features. Usually, bells and whistles cut into the overall tone, but he figured out a way to have the features NOT harm the signal path. I don't know how he does it, but the end result is an amp that chews through the voltage and spits out great tone.
