NPAD - Kemper: Believe the Hype (a little long)

Re: NPAD - Kemper: Believe the Hype (a little long)

Hmm. Well thanks for the explanations. Seems pretty limited to me. You have to spemd 2 large. Find someone esle who has not only a Killer sounding X, but also the profiler, and willing to give you a "patch" of what THEY think sounds the best. And the.more you deviate from an original profile, the less it sounds like the original amp and more digital?

I can forsee some unscruplous individuals selling profiles on ebay like the ubergeeks who sell magic items from World of Warcraft :D

That said, I am a traditionalist, and always thinking from a practical.standpoint, so take my comments with plenty of salt. SoSo, glad you are enjoying it after some tweaking!

Thank you!

I'm not totally convinced that you actually "get" what this thing is about, though. It's whole appeal comes from a practical standpoint.

It replicates a real life studio chain with amazing accuracy. I don't think it was ever intended to be the be all, end all of modeling. But it does something that, to me, is even better... It let's me snag my own tones from my own amps that I would be using to record the album, and lets the other guitarist and I record on our own time at home. That's absolutely worth 2 grand to me.

This thing came to me with over 400 profiles already loaded on it, and I'm sure I'll use some, but I bought it specifically to profile the:

Splawn Pro Mod
VHT Pittbull Classic
Marshall Vintage Modern
Suhr Badger 18
Boogie Mk II C

...that we own or have access to and were going to use in the studio anyway.

Re: NPAD - Kemper: Believe the Hype (a little long)

I think half the fun (for me) would be loading a variety of oddball and different amps (I'm guessing many are online already) to see if perhaps my favorite amp would be something I never considered, maybe a Laney something-erather or some old hiwatt.

At the same time, I "warm up" to nearly any amp in minutes and would be overwhelmed for sure!

Congrats - sounds like it will be a blast or you.

Oh I totally get it from your POV, as a studio tool, yes. But as a consumer who buys it, looking at it as a traditional modelling rig , looking to get a handful of amps they wish they had, it seems like a bad idea, whereas the AXEFX or what have you would be a far wiser decision due to its ability to more accurately model all the parameters of a given amp and cab, vs. The Kemper's "snapshot" of someone elses idea of a great tone.

Not sure if that makes sense...

I can also see someone buying a Kemper, heading out to some amp rental placce for a.day and having a field day, but again not terribly practical for the vast majority of consumers.

Kemper + Ultrasound Rehearsal = vault of great amp profiles!
