So I picked this up yesterday. So far, I love it!
I have been on a search for the perfect Tube Screamer for a while. So far, I've owned the Ibanez TS808, Maxon OD808 and OD9, Boss SD-1, MXR Classic Overdrive, and now the Duncan 805. I've liked some aspects of all, but I always end up going back to the trusty old TS808.
I set the Duncan 805 to sound as close as I can get it to the TS808 for now. The Duncan still has more of a clarity and openness which reminds me of the Maxon OD808, but the ability to dial in as much of a low-end rolloff is exactly why I got it. It seems to have less low mids and more actual low-end than the TS808 at these settings, which at the same time makes it tighter/clearer and chunkier/bigger. The high-end also seems more open rather than raspy, like the TS808.
I'm still in the honeymoon period, so I'm still not sure if it will end up replacing my TS808. The TS808 sounds a bit creamier, which I like, but at the expense of clarity and openness, which is why I like the Duncan.
