So I picked this up yesterday. So far, I love it!

I have been on a search for the perfect Tube Screamer for a while. So far, I've owned the Ibanez TS808, Maxon OD808 and OD9, Boss SD-1, MXR Classic Overdrive, and now the Duncan 805. I've liked some aspects of all, but I always end up going back to the trusty old TS808.

I set the Duncan 805 to sound as close as I can get it to the TS808 for now. The Duncan still has more of a clarity and openness which reminds me of the Maxon OD808, but the ability to dial in as much of a low-end rolloff is exactly why I got it. It seems to have less low mids and more actual low-end than the TS808 at these settings, which at the same time makes it tighter/clearer and chunkier/bigger. The high-end also seems more open rather than raspy, like the TS808.

I'm still in the honeymoon period, so I'm still not sure if it will end up replacing my TS808. The TS808 sounds a bit creamier, which I like, but at the expense of clarity and openness, which is why I like the Duncan.

:)

Re: NPD - Duncan 805

no reason you cant keep and use both. i like to have creamy for leads but clarity and openness for rhythm, stacking them for over the top wanking

Re: NPD - Duncan 805

Love the eq controls. You have this noticeable click when they are at 12 o'clock so you know you don't boost or cut anything if you don't want to.

Re: NPD - Duncan 805

Hey, I didn't get arrows with mine!

I like the 805 better than any other TS pedal. They all sound like AM radios to me now (though, I can get the 805 to sound that way, too). I think the 805's active tone controls solved every problem I ever had with my TS pedals.

Re: NPD - Duncan 805

I must admit I kinda like the AM radio sound, lol, especially in front of a roaring, sizzling, scoopy-sounding, high-gain, modern metal amp. But the thing I like about the 805 is even when set to cut bass and treble and boost mids, it retains that clarity and openness.

I wonder how it sounds running at 18V. Is it much different?

Re: NPD - Duncan 805

I used mine yesterday to see if I could clone my TS7 and Bad Monkey. I could, to where I couldn't tell the difference. But why? It really sounds so much better..much more open. Like I took the amp out from under a blanket (this is using it as the only source of drive, which is only how I use it).

Your settings are basically what I do to my Black Winters except I roll off treble more brutally (9 o'clock) and set gain and level on 9 and 12 o'clock, respectively. Very natural tone.

Re: NPD - Duncan 805

Cool, man! I just have it set to sound as close as my TS808 as I can. After a couple of weeks, I feel like I've finally found the OD that took my TS808's place, though. I really dig how clear and open the 805 sounds, even when set to be close to the TS.

Re: NPD - Duncan 805

This is the beauty of the 805. I can clone my TS7 and Bad Monkey, but it sounds better and more open when I don't. When I go back to using a TS pedal, it sounds like an AM radio to me.
