NPD: Ibanez Super Metal (spoiler alert, not for metal)

Boom, 2 4558's, and some EQ. Sounds fantastic. Anyone who has a chance to get one, do it. Found this one just hanging out at a Sam Ash, all lonely.

I'm sure it was "metaly" in the 80s when it came out, by today's standards though, with the gain mid-way it's a booteek drive more than anything else.

Frank, if you get a perm you can play some Winger and Twisted Sister with it.

Re: NPD: Ibanez Super Metal (spoiler alert, not for metal)

I had the Maxon version, which was meh.

There are definitely some meh sounds in this thing at far ranges of the knobs. If someone tried to use it with the gain cranked as a "metal" pedal it's not impressive by today's booteek pedal standards. But mid-gain with single coils, I think it's great.

Re: NPD: Ibanez Super Metal (spoiler alert, not for metal)

The attack is a pregain adjuster.
MS-10, MT-10, or something different?
MS 10 :)
I snipped D3 D4-to D5 D6...then the level got a whole lot more useful range, and it barely takes away the dirt on the more extreme setting.

That's the one I have. I bought it because I had one when I was a teenager; it was my first pedal ever.

I dunno. The one I had sounded like a glorified Metal Zone, and had quite a lot of gain on tap even with the gain at zero.

Re: NPD: Ibanez Super Metal (spoiler alert, not for metal)

^As all other dratted pedles...they are highly dependent on amp and guitar.
Something that is....meh on one setup is suddenly the sollution on something else.

Re: NPD: Ibanez Super Metal (spoiler alert, not for metal)

Maybe because you're not playing Super Metal with it?
Correct, does not work for average metal.

Nah this one can do "clean boost" with the gain at zero. Maybe the Maxon is different. This ones only gained up at "10".

Cool snag!

Says a guy in a band playing more than one Twisted Sister tune….

As always, like with the Boss HM-2, just need to find out where to put the knobs. Every dirt box has a time and place to shine. You just may not know what it is.
