Sweetness!

You know what I do to that? I would SUPER-relic the body. Take it to epic bare wood look...

Well wouldn't ya know it, that's kind of what I decided to do

This started out as one of the fugly Worn Ebony models that played pretty well, sounded killer and looked like the dog dragged around in the backyard but not in a good way. I think they just used a can of black spray paint per guitar. I spent last night and a good chunk of today sanding and scraping it down to raw meat. I am going to sort of LP Special/Relic it out a little. Oil finish the neck, back and sides, TV Yellow-ish top, black plastics w/5 ply guard. It's already got 50's wiring w/OD caps so that's all good. Gotta get some white button Klusons to complete the look

That looks really nice, very clean wood. TV yellow will look so F’ing cool!

Why too much work?

This is something I will dig the hell out of and I am doing what I love

And yes I am insane

Man - that is some sweet grain on that except for that one little spot on the control bottom area that is darker.

By TV yellow I assume you really mean TV yellow.

I was wondering what some super amber lacquer might look like. You know - 50 years of aging amber style...

But dang - I could just smooth satin finish that and have a major boner!

I shaped the neck of mine from the round 50ies neck to soft V shape. I slimmed the shoulders in both sides, but kept the thickness. I far more comfortable now. Now i can play Keef's rhythm chops with my thumb wrapped around.:headbang:

I just did a smooth satin oil finish over clear maple on the Mick Ronson trib, it's pretty awesome but that's not what I wanted for this one.

As for the TV yellow I am experimenting with a few colors since it is over maple not mahogany but I think I've got a nice approximation.

Re: NPD - Les Paul Studio 50's Trib P-90

So right after I took that pic, I knocked it off my work bench:argh:

2 nice dents on the top thru the edge on the forearm bout, & a nice ding in the back. I wanted to puke to say the least.

I used the iron and steam trick to try and fix them, thankfully it worked like a charm and you couldn't tell a thing. Had to re-sand but that was nothing.......whew.......

Got a few coats of oil on the back of the neck so far and all parts are ordered.

Good work. I would have done a trapeze tailpiece just for looks, but to each his own.

What pickups do you plan on putting in?

Re: NPD - Les Paul Studio 50's Trib P-90

Stock Gibson P-90's

This guitar sounded awesome, fell in love with it but it looked like Hell. I didn't even really take any pics of it I just started tearing it apart when I got it home. A trap would be fun, maybe the next one I do I'll give that a shot.

It isn't a stain, it is a thinned out enamel in a warm yellow. I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to find a stain that could get the color I want. The pic makes it look a little warmer than it actually is. I have another coat to do and then I'll try and take some better shots.
