NPD! Line 6 MM4

Got to work and had a package waiting on my desk. Silly me had the pedal shipped to work and then took a sick day.

Line 6 MM4

I know it isn't anything spectacular but I am excited about it.

I hope to give it a run through tonight.

A big factor for me in going this route for my modulation fx was that it is multiple effects contained in a single box. It's a larger footprint but it takes multiple boxes off of my board.

I've played with the unit before and really liked it. Now I just need to get some serious hands on time and tweak to my liking. I don't use a whole lot of modulation so I was ok to compromise with a multi-fx unit like this.
I am aware of the pros and cons of dedicated stomp boxes rather than these units.

I plan to definitely use chorus and phase. My amp has onboard tremolo that suits me well enough so I won't be using the MM4's trem.

I will probably reserve the last two settings for some trippier effects or maybe some stereo fun.

Does anyone have any settings you'd like to share from yours?

Also is it worth it to get the expression pedal?

It seems to me that it really is the same thing as the double preset mod you can get done but it fades in rather than just switches.
Or is it possible to run some sort of footswitch rather than an expression pedal to go from a mild to a more extreme setting?

Re: NPD! Line 6 MM4

Nice pick up man.

Line 6's chorus and delays are fantastic. Their Flangers and phasers are decent. The vibrato/Tremelo settings are pretty good even if you have em on board your AC. it's nice having one less button to dance upon.

I would recommend getting a Ernie Ball Volume Pedal, it could be used as an expression pedal, plus be used as a volume pedal for boosts and swells.

Re: NPD! Line 6 MM4

Congrats man! Hope you have fun with it. I've never played one before so I'll have to try one out sometime.

Can it do Both at the same time? I thought if it was being used as an expression pedal then it couldn't operate as a volume...

Nice score, man. I'm definitely planning on picking one of those up at some point. Let us know how you get on with it. :beerchug:

By the way, seen these? I thought of them when I read your OP because I thought they were a good bit cheaper than the 'official' Line 6 ones, but after checking again I guess they aren't. Still, they're a different take. If it were me, I'd probably mount it on it's side so that I could roll my foot along the top, rather than try to actually turn it with the side of my shoe.

Congrats on the new pedal! I bet you have a blast with it. :friday:

It can't function as BOTH at the same time. It's always going be one or the other. In a sense the expression pedal aspect is sort of like a VP.

The Ernie Ball has 2 outputs - main and tuner. I don't use the tuner, it pops and adds noise. Strictly use mono out.

In terms of the LIne 6 it has an input for expression pedal as well as guitar input. So if you wanted to use it as a strictly volume you would have to connect it into one of the guitar inputs.

Now that I think about it, it may not work.

Since their expression pedals only have an ooutput, where as the ERnie Ball has an output and input.

I will definitely be back with a review.

I've considered something like that. I saw a page where someone had a diagram of how to build one but I didn't bookmark the link and now I can't find it. It looked simple enough. Plus it would take up much less space.

I like the idea of mounting it on it's side. That might be easier to control.

I've read that the ernie ball volume pedal does work with it. I already have a volume pedal on my board (little alligator) so I don't see me spending that much for an expression pedal. But if I were to go spend the price of a Line 6 expression pedal I would certainly invest in an EB volume.

I owned both the MM4 and Dl4. The MM4 is real nice, the problem is you cant mix and mesh efx, for example chorus with flange.

I set mine up to something like this chorus, flange, phase and tremelo. Sometimes I used 2 chorus, one for lush 80s single picking and one subtle for chord backing.

I would recommend investing in the EB. It's truly a great pedal. For now though, use your Morley as a expression pedal.

However, down the line if you want a volume pedal, ditch the MOrley, get the Ernie Ball. Trust me I had both. Still have the Ernie Ball. The MOrley wasn't a good VP, it has problems. However, it could turn into a really nice expression pedal.

Mixing fx isn't too big of a deal for me. I knew that I couldn't do that when I picked this one up. If that's ever an issue I will sell this and go back with individual units but for the time being this is exactly what I need.

The EB is definitely on the list of pedals I want. Just not a high priority. I picked up the Morley for $20. It came along at just the right time.

Eventually I will add the Ernie Ball to my board. But I'm in no rush.

Re: NPD! Line 6 MM4

slightly off topic but...put the Corona through it's paces over the weekend twice...sounds fantastic!!! found a tri-chorus setting for an "always on" thickening agent during rhythm chording that is very nice!

also a lush flavor for slow leads and clean picking.

of course it gets along very nicely with the flashback...lol

hope you dig your MM4...i had the DL4 briefly at one time...like what has been said, the inability to mix the effects was a deal breaker for me.

Awesome! I like hearing that it is a good one. It would definitely be towards the top of my list to check out if I was going with single pedals.

I picked this one up for about $115 with power supply. So not a crazy deal but enough for me to justify the purchase and move some pedals.

When you guys mix FX what all do you layer? I don't care to do it because it just feels like a bit much to my ears.
I like a touch of chorus to add some depth and sparkle.

I don't have a lot of real world use for really far out fx. But they can certainly be fun for jamming.

Truthfully I don't do much mixing. If anything I mix delay and chorus. I'll mix a few only if i'm trying to incorporate a spacey/ambient intro.

You'll be happy with it. It's worth it for the chorus.

Re: NPD! Line 6 MM4

I like the concept of those line 6 pedals but didn't get along with the DL4 I borrowed for a while from my friend.

Whats your review on the MM4? I really like modulation effects so that multi fx unit might actually work out for me.

Re: NPD! Line 6 MM4

I had an MM4 for a little while. It had a pretty stellar rotating speaker effect.

My only qualm with the unit is that there's a bit of a volume drop with it when you engage it. There are some mods out there to rectify that problem though.
