NPD (little bear rat clone)

Been curious about the little bear r.attack RAT clone so picked one up used recently.

I immediately dug the vintage mode. The turbo was great too. Initially, the dirty mode had an almost uncontrollable feedback thing going on but today when I tested it just now it seemed fine and I liked that setting a lot. I probably had the gain up too high at first.

All of the modes have a great thick/wooly vibe which is nice (reminds me of the Swedish DM sound even though that’s usually with a boss HM pedal). The filter knob has a ton of tonal variations.

Yes the 3 modes have vastly different output levels. Not a huge issue for me. I treat it like 3 different pedals.

I couldn’t have a NPD post without a clip so here’s a riff with the dirty setting through my Marlboro combo

The reason the output levels are so different is the highest output mode is the Turbo Rat which uses red LEDs for clipping (~1.5 - 2.07V), the middle mode is standard Rat which uses silicone diodes for clipping (~.7V), and the low output is the You Dirty Rat mode which uses germanium diodes for clipping (~.3V).

The rest of the circuit is the same, that is the only change between the Rats.
