NPD - Marshall Guv'Nor Plus GV-2

Wattage

High Voltologist
Never cared much for pedals but I seem to be building a fairly useful, smallish board.

I was looking for something to give me a good Marshall-esque sound when I have to use house backlines for gigs and I really like this pedal. Picked it up used at my friend's shop on Saturday and used it for a gig on Sunday.

Does what I need nicely and very simply. Ran it thru a Blues Deluxe at the gig Sunday and I dialed up my sound in under a minute. Set the Deluxe up for it with a nice clean sound and I was very happy, it really does sound like a Marshall in a box. That's really all I need it for, I got some really decent mid-gain sounds and the EQ on it is all right. The deep setting added some nice low end resonance too, It handled having my boost, trem and echo pedals running into with no fuss and ran off my One Spot. Perfect

Re: NPD - Marshall Guv'Nor Plus GV-2

That may be one of the most underrated OD pedals ever. It seems to be overshadowed by the original version, when the Gov II has a lot of tone shaping ability, great core Marshall tone, and even looks great.

I picked one up awhile back when I had a gift certificate, and Sam Ash was blowing them out cheap. I use it on occasion, although it's not my board. Now that I think about it, I need to try it through my Matchless Chieftain with half the gain from the amp and half from the Gov'nor II.

Everyone always asks what pedal they should use as a 'Marshall in a box' and seem to think of every boutique pedal first, before even considering....duh....a Marshall pedal. It reminds me of Big Bob! LOL

Very good pedals. I had one for a couple of years. I used to run mine through a valvestate among other things and it totally kicked the crap out of the VS' distortion channel.

Re: NPD - Marshall Guv'Nor Plus GV-2

It just kind of seemed like it made sense to use a Marshall pedal. I really should've looked to see if Orange has a similar pedal:smack:

Nice Wattage!

I do agree that the Guvnor is definitely overlooked (both versions) when it comes to finding a marshallinabox.

I built a v1 and it's definitely a great pedal at what it does. I added a clipping-options switch allowing me to choose between the original leds, silicon diodes or none of them. Very cool...

Re: NPD - Marshall Guv'Nor Plus GV-2

i forgot about that pedal as well. i coil really use some him like that as i am never satisfied with smaller practice amp tones when not using my full rack marshall rig.

It's true, I have guitars with tremolo's too. No Floyd's though.

Re: NPD - Marshall Guv'Nor Plus GV-2

I kinda want one to go with my jackhammer. Sort of a bonnie and clyde thing ya know?

Re: NPD - Marshall Guv'Nor Plus GV-2

Best thing I have found for boosting gain channels is a Pigtronix Top Boost, had good luck with some parametric EQ's as well.

I meant more along the lines of a Tubescreamer style boost. Even the really good TS clones never give you the EQ options that the GV-2 sports.
