Enter... the Catalinbread Formula 5 and the Xotic BB Preamp.
I'm really loving both these pedals. The F5 is dirty, nasty, and all around wonderful. Cleans up wonderfully with the guitar's volume. Catalinbread describes it as having a "greasy" midrange, and I must agree. It's a killer pedal with humbuckers, but I haven't tried it with single coils yet.
The BB... wow, I'm extremely impressed. I get all of the hype on this pedal - it's really killer. Probably the best dirty boost I've used. using it with the gain just shy of noon and the volume a bit past unity, boosting my Box of Rock, it gets a killer metal rhythm tone. Straight into the amp, it's a great mid-gain overdrive with plenty of clarity and tons of versatility. Extremely "amp-like."
I'm on my way to finally finishing up my pedalboard. I only have a few pedals left I need to get - I'll be picking up a Cusack Tap a Whirl soon, I've got a Voodoo Labs Micro Vibe on backorder, I'll probably be picking up a Carbon Copy at some point, and when it comes out, I'll be replacing the Deja Vu with the Way Huge Supa Puss.
I've also got cables coming in this week, so I'll be able to clean up the board a bit and put the pedals in whichever order I want. I don't like the way I had to place my pedals because I didn't have long enough cables. Right now, the signal path is: Guitar --> Pitchblack --> Lovepedal Fuzzmaster --> Nobels ODR-1 --> BB Preamp --> Catalinbread F5 --> Box of Rock --> SD Deja Vu --> Hall of Fame. I want to be able to have all my dirt on the bottom, and all my modulation on top, since I turn the dirt on and off more than the modulation effects.
I'm really happy with all the stuff I have, and even happier because I know I'll be finished buying pedals for a while within the next few months.
