That was my recipe for years: a Silverface Fender and a D+. I also used a dimed boost as another gain stage, and there is a distinct difference in the tone, finger sensitivity, and compression when stacking it. The pedal is okay on its own but amazing when stacked with another gain stage.

Do you play with high gain? I play with moderate gain, the edge of breakup, when needed I add a fuzz or a distortion in chain to get out of the mix. In this context the Dist+ never suits me as a main stage, neither as a booster, it always lack something. Matter of taste I think.
 
I would say yes, we are fairly high gain. The rhythm guitar on this is an MXR D+ with an EP-type boost on it. The lead is a Wampler Dracarys. You can hear the separation during the lead, or if you pan the tracks, they are mixed fairly wide.
