Hi!
I'm still searching for answer.
I love Pauls's early Mr. Big specific clean sound.
I mean Anytging for Love or Just Take My Heart.
I saw live he used position 2 (bridge + middle).
I know he used Paf Pros(paralel) and FS-1.
I'm wondering do humbucker can autosplit on position 2, or it's still parallel Paf Pro with FS-1?
Do autosplit is possibile with parallel humbuckers and standard 5 way switch?
I guess megaswitch weren't available back then.

I know if I use parallel humbucker + single coil i get hum. So if I use parallel humbucker + stacked single coil i get noise free?

It appears his Ibanez auto-split the humbuckers in 2 and 4. Videos I found of him playing Just Take My Heart showed the switch in the #2 position. To be hum-cancelling, the middle coil would need to be wound and/or magnetically oriented opposite of the hum-coil it's being combined with. A standard 5-way can do autosplits. You use one side of the blade to select the pickups, and the other side of the blade to ground out the unused coil on the humbuckers in 2 and 4.

The #2 position is the neck in parallel. It was standard Ibanez wiring on the HSH guitars. 1 - neck series, 2- neck parallel, 3 - middle, 4 - middle + bridge split, 5 - bridge series. 3 could also be neck series + bridge series.

I believe a standard 5-way isn't going to do that, you'll run out of lugs, unless Artie or someone knows a tricky way to get it done.
