NS-2 owner's feedback

So, his "immaculate boroqueness" YJM talks it up a lot ... but when its spits the signal out how "digitized" is it, and can it really solve your noise issues with leaving your sustain and tone unravished. Thanks.

Re: NS-2 owner's feedback

When set up right it is very effective. I don't use mine so much now because I'm not playing high gain metal, but if i did i would bring it back into use. It does the job well, and is built solid. I'm sure you can pay more for a more transparent unit, but when i used mine i don't remember any significant tone loss.

Re: NS-2 owner's feedback

I've owned my Boss NS2 longer than any other piece of gear I've had, and I'll probably never get rid of it, because I just couldn't play live without it, period. In the bedroom, you can throw it an a noisy amps effects loop, and it will shut down all the hiss/hum, or if you have noisy pedals throw them in the NS2's effects loop, and it will silence them. As far as live, I usually just run my guitar into the NS2 into the front of the amp. No squeal, no hiss, and there's no dramatic loss in tone or signal clarity. Actually, there's a slight rise in my volume when I use it. As far as sustain, it will degrade your sustain somewhat, but I'm talking you'd have to hold a note for a while to notice, like the first couple phrases in "For The Love Of God".

Re: NS-2 owner's feedback

Ok, cool guys thanks. But how much does it "digitize" the signal. I mean if I put it after my TS9 before the amp, will I still hava my warmth and that analog sizzle or will it sound like DIGITECH 2120 taimed sound.

Re: NS-2 owner's feedback

My NS 2 is very transparent sounding. I have is at the end of my pedal chain and besides squshing alot of back ground hiss, it is barely noticable.

Re: NS-2 owner's feedback

+1

It really doesn't change the sound at all, just some very slight nuances, pretty transparent.

The NS-2 is analog. I'm pretty sure it's impossible for it to digitize anything.

Re: NS-2 owner's feedback

Thanks guys, sound good. But did anyone of you had experience with Rockotron Hush pedal??? how does it defer from NS-2??? Thanks

Re: NS-2 owner's feedback

The Hush is a great pedal, or rather was since the newer, one channel, korean made ones seem to be pretty crappy regarding sound.
I use one of the older USA made, two channel(two switches and two different treshhold settings, what can be very usefull if you use different levels of gain) ones and when active there's not even the slightest loss of sound(except the noise of course). Best noisegate i've tried so far, but i hear gret things about the isp decimator.
Imo the NS-2 is a great pedal, but putting everything in a loop makes it a bit more cable intensive and less practical. It's not completely as transparent as the Hush i havfe but still very good.

Re: NS-2 owner's feedback

How is the Hush for full stops?

ie, chugga chugga (silence) chugga chugga (silence)

I've read a few times that the ISP is great for transparent gating, but that the NS-2 beats it for full stops....since in that case you don't really want transparent...so I'm wondering where the Hush fits in.

Re: NS-2 owner's feedback

Actually i can't really tell you.
I know the NS-2 is very good at that, but all i use my Hush for is gating effect noise and all that which it handles btter than the NS-2 but for stop on a dime chugging i have a powerball that takes care of this.
Sorry for not having the infos you wanted.

Actually that's what the ISP decimator is made for... Being able to read how fast you're playing then decide how fast it should shut the gate.

If you're shredding, it'll instantly cut you off between notes. (In a good way.)

If you're playing a slow solo, it'll allow you to sustain for as long as your guitar can manage, altho it will allow some buzz before it cuts you off in that case.

It follows your playing perfectly.

I always put it right after the guitar. None of my effects are noisey, and it allows the amp to maintain it's sensitivity.

I've got a Boss ME-50 with the basic NS-2 idea encorporated, but the notch auto-ramps. Overall, I LOVE the NS on the ME-50, but I'm not sure how closely or loosely it's based on the NS-2.... Hope that helps....
