Nice! How did you choose the pickups?

A while back one of the guys on the Splawn forum posted a clip of him playing with the Fokin pickups he had just gotten. And they sounded tremendous.
I emailed Ilya Fokin and talked about the type of tone I was looking for and then I decided to go with his stuff.
His website is in Cryllic but google translate does a good enough job that you can get a good idea of what each pickup is about.
And the set of humbucker a I just ordered only cost $149 shipped. How can you beat that!
Here’s the clip from the Splawn forum.

Nice guitar. Hope it turns out better than expected. In fact ,I say with nothing but best intentions, I hope it makes your Fokin ears bleed.:9:

Re: NSSD!! (New Shred Stick Day!!)

Cool project. BTW, aren't the nut locking tabs turned 90 deg's?

Nope looking at the photos they are turned right the ridge on the tabs always are aligned with the string direction IE vertical to the neck.
Great find man those old Kramers are really cool guitars congrats and looking forward to seeing it all come together!

I replaced all of the electronics down to the wiring. New pots, new switch, new jack and all new wires. I installed the pickups and dropped it off to my tech for a setup just last Saturday.
I should have it back this weekend, hopefully.

I will give you a more complete review when I get the guitar back but in the meantime, if you google Fokin pickups one of the options is to open the webpage with google translate (his website is in Russian Cryllic). It will give you a description of his lineup. This guitar will have the Hot Breeze bridge and Rocket Queen Neck.

You’ll just have to wait for this Fokin weekend bro...lol[emoji4]

Ive heard they're fokin great

More seriously, though, I'm pretty sure his thing was mainly doing custom builds for Eastern Europe, filling a niche for customers who didn't want to or didn't know how to custom order from American companies. Cost, preferred form of payment, language barriers, unwillingness to ship international, whatever

Not sure if he has any proprietary innovations to his name

Re: NSSD!! (New Shred Stick Day!!)

Wonder what he calls his mama

Мама, maybe?

Possibly, just ма...

In any case, to what I'm sure will be your undying disappointment, per the intricacies of the Russian language, any female with that surname would actually be FokinA... and yes, to further break your heart, that's A as in "uh", not "ey"

Really nice looking guitar. I love the Kramer guitars from the 80's. That will be killer when you're done with it. I'm also reply glad you turned me on to those Fokin pickups. I like to try different things and he has some interesting takes on pickups. I know I'll try a set, probably sooner rather than later.

I'll be looking forward to your completed pics and your review of the sound and the pickups. I'm sure they'll sound killer through your Spawn!!!

Congrats.
