NSSD!! (New Shred Stick Day!!)

Re: NSSD!! (New Shred Stick Day!!)

So, in looking at his pickups (which are nicely varied) and comparing them to our known SD pickups, it looks like the Hot Breeze might be in the vein of the Custom 5, but possibly not so scooped in the mids. And the Rocket Queen along the lines of maybe a PG. Less bass and a bit more mids and treble. Am I on the right track interpreting those pickups?

Some very interesting offerings. Many are higher gain, hotter pickups but he has a nice variety of mid output and vintage output as well. I'm still looking at his site.

I have a Hot Breeze in my HSS Strat and I’d say it fits it it he Custom line. It has an A5 mag but like you said, probably not as scooped. Maybe between a C5 and a CC.
I haven’t yet tried the Rocket Queen so I don’t want to make any comparisons just yet. But with its A2 I’m expecting a softer, chewier attack, smooth top end and lots of mid range bite (for a neck pickup, anyway). One of the reasons I gravitated toward this pickup as opposed to some of his other offerings, is that it is his take on Slash’s neck pickup tone, which on Appetite is just phenomenal.
So I’ll guess that it will be very close to an AP2/Slash pickup.

Just looking at that baby is making me GAS for a black guitar with white pickups.

Very nice. Those Focus models are killer guitars. The body was also made by ESP. I had a beak neck Focus 2000 that I wish I still had. Loaded it with dual Super Distortions (the neck wired in parallel). Nice beefy neck too.

I believe this is an ‘86. It’s got the transition banana into pointy headstock. Unless I’m mistaken this neck was made in the ESP factory too.

Yup, both body and neck were at that time. '86 or thereabouts sounds about right. Mine was an '83-'84. Same body shape but different neck.

Just got the call from the shop. The Kramer is done and ready for pickup.
He said he thought it was sounding pretty damn good. Obviously he was jamming out on it!!

I’ll be able to pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Can’t wait!!!

Re: NSSD!! (New Shred Stick Day!!)

Ok!! Picked it up. Looks KILLER!!
Here’s a quick noodling video recorded with my phone. Don’t expect pro audio!! Lol
I flip back and forth between the bridge and neck pickup a couple of times. I’m sure you be able to hear the difference.

Yeah, I’m really happy with it.

As far as the pickups go, if I had to compare them to a set of Duncan’s...

Bridge is slightly scooped so maybe a Custom 5?

And I’d go with an Anico pro2 or Slash neck?

There are lots more people here with more Duncan experience so maybe they could assess the comparison better than I can?

Re: NSSD!! (New Shred Stick Day!!)

Those sound great
But I suspect it's hard to find anything that sounds bad through that Splawn
