In theory is a shimmed nut, locking or otherwise, a sign of bad things? I have a '01 USA BC Rich Bich that the locking nut is shimmed on. Quite high i might add. With the shim there's no buzz and there are no problems with it. Without the strings are extremely close to the fret board and the last time I tried to tweak it i couldn't get the strings high enough to not need the shims. I've never had a guitar that needed to be shimmed or that was shimmed before this one but I read some time ago that it's a common practice with Ibanez guitars.

Any input?

Re: Nut shimming

Not a bad thing at all.
In fact, if you're using a Floyd, expect to shim the nut, neck pocket, or both. :)
