NUX HG-6 High Gain Distortion

Ok so about 3yrs ago I was given this pedal. In that 3yrs Ive put all of 10 minutes on this thing. Every few months I pull it off the shelf and mess with it and within 3 minutes its back on the shelf.
Does anybody have one of these? Into an amp on edge of breakup all i can get is GOBS of overly compressed flubb.
Anyone have any tips what to do with this thing? Is it sposed to be like an amp in a box pedal or something.

I cant say anything about that but particular pedal my amp does not take dirt boxes, or very few into the front of the amp no matter the settings. Now if I run them into the Effects Loop Return, they sound much better. May wanna try that option.

what amp doesnt take dirt boxes well? all mine seem to work well to some degree, some better than others of course. the clean channel on my badcat takes pedals great, the dirt channel doesnt need em

My Marshall Jubilee, every pedal I have run into the front of it, Pinnacle Deluxe, Dracarys and a couple others all sound very thin and fizzy in front with a flubby low end if I run it into the front of the amp, if I run them into the effects return, they sound much fuller.

The only dirt pedal that sounds good in front is the Tumnus mini but Im using it more as a boost than a full on dirt pedal.

Love the amp and only run those pedals if I want a different flavor of dirt. The Pinnacle Deluxe does have a boost on it akin to the TS9 and its not bad. Almost picked up an SD-1 the other day but didnt for some reason.

Almost every cheaper digital amp (Line 6, Vox) really suck at any pedals, much less dirt pedals.

My usual is a TC spark boost into EQ( extra boost and slight curve). I also have an SD1 DS1 Klon Klone and TS9(not on board)all sound good in thier own way.
Id like to know this NUX does sonething more than doorstop/ wheel ckok

ive never owned a digital amp. my first amp was a peavey bandit, which was solid and took pedals well. next was a jcm800 half stack, then a red knob twin. ive owned solid state amps, which took pedals great, but never a digital amp. probably wont either

Digital amps these days have built in effects, and those aren't terrible, but they really struggle with any exterior tone modifications.

What amp are you using and do you have a different amp you can try it the pedal
My main little gigger is a Marshall DSL 6v6s with the bright cap lowered and V1b cathode resister upped to 2.2k to reduce gain. The big gigger is a DSL 100 el34s same mods.
Also tried my Dean Markley CD60 6L6s( Boogie.ish) and a small SS Park combo Ive had since the 90s.

What is the advantage for modifying an amplifier for less gain
Smooths the tone a hair makes it sound more classic Marshall. Pretty common mod if you deep dive into DSL mods. It cools the bias of the second stage makes it a hair thicker.
Its an attempt to make it sound more like my old JCM 800 I sold and now cant afford to rebuy.
2.2k is the value Marshall used on the 2nd stage in the 800s. 1.8k is the stock DSL value...i tried 3.3 and 5k also..

If thats the case, it just may not be the pedal for you and there could be a reason it was given to you.

Try it in the loop if you havent, see if its any better.

Nux pedals are often clones of others. Any idea what this is a clone of?

You could try it in the loop, but I find most distortion pedals meant to go into a clean channel don't work all that well on amps that don't have a ton of range in their presence knob. Pedals meant to go into clean channels are often voiced darker than pedals meant to go in the loop. So it could work, you don't lose anything, but it could also sound worse.

Ill have to try it on the Markley...which has an adjustable loop.
Or drag it to the rehearsal space to the big DSL....The little guy dont have a loop( or a standby switch...wtf?? Lol)
