Nwe bridge for LP

Howdy all, I am heading to Austin in the Am to pick up a new bridge P/U for my LP. I have a Jazz in the neck position and am getting rid of the JB. I have my heart set on a Pearly Gates bridge and I was wondering how they would sound together. Looking for less output and more vintage sound. What do you think.

I think there's a chance that the Jazz would have alot more bass than the PG bridge. I've never tried them both in the same guitar, but I use the PGn and 59tb in my Strat and that works out well. But I don't think I'd like the reverse (59n or Jazz n & PGb) as well. That's just a guess though! Lew

So you think I would be better off with a 59 or A 2 pro? I have to get rid of the JB way too shrill for me. I want a fat well balanced bridge pu, that will handle distorion well.

This is just my personal opinion: I find that alnico 5 pickups like the 59 and Jazz have more bass than alnico 2 pickups like the PG & A2Pro. The neck position always has more bass than the bridge position on a guitar. So I'd go for a pickup with less bass for the neck and pickup with more bass for the bridge.

The Jazz and JB is a pretty popular combo. But I like the 59B better myself.

Thanks for the advice Lew. I think I'll give the 59 bridge a go. How are the pinch harmonics from a 59?

For the way I play, I find that the '59 B has a tone similar to what I hear from Eric Clapton when he played his '60 Les Paul with Jhn Mayall or his '64 SG with Cream. That's the best example I can think of.

The PG has killer pinch harmonics. It's a great pickup. Personally, I'd go for a set of PG's: neck & bridge.

The only hesitation I had was with using it with an alnico 5 pickup like the Jazz in the neck. Maybe it would be fine.

This one is a matter of opinion, I like A5 in LP neck slots to pull some clean out of the mud. I had a JB in my bridge positin and didn't like it either and the Alnico 2 magnet is what I was needing.

I've got a Jazz in the Neck of my Heritage 150 and an Alnico 2 pro in the bridge and I think the combo works very well. The pinch harmonics are great and the A2P has a lot more mids than the 59. The PG will have even more and bit more presence (like the presence knob) in the treble frequencies.

I have a PG plus in my lone star Strat. I love the tone in that particular application. The LP would be a diffrent story however. what are the diffrences in the PG + and regular PG? And the effect of the diffrent tone woods? I would think the mohogany of the LP would be a bit less snappy than the Strat body, no?

The PG+ is an alnico 5 pickup. The PG is an alnico 2.

If Luke Duke is using a Jazz neck and AIIPro bridge pickup and likes it then go for the PG you'd originally thought about using.

Go for the custom custom!!! Very fat, does distortion great, harmonics are good, and it will mix very well with your Jazz. In my opinion the PG bridge is not fat. If you thought the JB was shrill, I would stay away.

I love the Custom Custom too...but he wants a vintage output bridge humbucker.

Oh, I didnt realize that. Its a shame the EVH is a custom shop model. It kind of reminds me of a CC with alot less output.

Alot of folks say that. Are you using the '78? (Duncan doesn't want it called the EVH... :smack: ...Eddie doesn't have an endorsement dea with SD Pickups, nor does Jeff Beck for that "Jazz Blues" pickup :laugh2: )
