Re: NYXL strings
well, normally i'm not a big fan of the d'addario's xl, i feel the 10-46 set to feel like rubber on E standar for me, as there was a time in wich i used 12-52 on E stadr, that plus my right hand being like a dumb sledge hammer that can overkill the thick gauges with little pick strokes, i really had a bad time with the xl's being so sloppy, the pro steels weren't any better, they were just harsh ans still sloppy, then i tried the DR Hi-Voltage (yup i'm a dimebag fanboy so) they feel right in place, they were clearer than the pro steels, but warm like the xl's and right in the middle of xl's and pro steels on crspyness.
the thursday gone to my local shop, they ran out of DR Hi-V since january, so i bought a set of daddarios xl on the 10-46 gauge, well, bak on the thursday i went and they still didn't had my beloved Hi-Vs (thanks to the imcompetence of the customs dep) well however they had some NYXL sets, so i went ahead and thought "screw this, gotta see what the fuzz is all about" while i bought a pack, first of all, they look like the biggest most baddas condoms envelope, you just have a set of them and everyone will think they're ultra sized condoms for the beast beneath you pants, so first big point, when opening they dont come with those blue nylon picks with an oversized jazz shape that regular xl's come with, but they have a really cool sticker, well now on tone and feel, they really feel higher tension, and for me that's really a good thing, unlike the Hi-Vs that felt higher tension for my picking hand but softer and grippier for my fretting hand, these things feels really higher tension, for both my hands, they actually feel stiffer than the Hi-Vs, wich for playing on 432hz E 1/4 step down standar isn't a bad thing, they don't feel as grippy but the feel aint bad, also they're easy to bend, way easier than how stiff the feel might suggest.
tonewise, i'm impressed, they really sing better than regular xl's, they're bighter but not harsh rip your ears bright like the pro steels, they're pretty crispy, as crispy as the Hi-Vs.... maybe not, but crispier than regular xl's for sure, also they're a bit clearer than regular xl's and the top has a smooth character wich results very pleasing, the tuning well, they really got on proper tuning faster than the xl's, right now they're not my favourite but... they really aren't that far from my fvourite strings, well time will say how well they really behave for me, but right now i¿m enjoying them!
