O.D Pedals

High guys, i'm stuck on a Purchasing Disicion. I walked into my local music store ( chain store here, 2 of them ) and i asked ' hmm do you guys have either a ts 808, or ts9, or something similar' the local guitar expert said to me there ' a what? Ive never heard of them' so i just turned around and walked out ( they are an ibanez dealer too).
But i'm stuck on what O.D pedal i want to buy. Either a Maxon ts 808 , a Marhsall blues breaker ( I or II ) or a Fulltone Full-Drive 2. Can you guys tell me the differences between each? Are they miles apart or similar but not quiet the same?

Re: O.D Pedals

The FDII is based on a Tubescreamer...but with a LOT more options, it caries a lot more price as well but I woudl say it's well worth it, if you don't want/neeed the exra options (vintage mids, flat mids, comp cut) go for the Ibanez if you want the extra stuff look into the FDII, as for the Bluesbreaker pedals I havew nothing to offer as I have never used one but several guys on the forum have used them...do a search and see what you can find out.

Re: O.D Pedals

I dont really need the extra stuff so i think i'll stick with either the bluesbreaker or the ts 808. Hopefully more guys will chime in with some comparisons and the like

Re: O.D Pedals

I sold my TS808 not too long ago. Didn't really like it. I'm considering an early BB for the replacement. The only pedal I've played so far that I really liked was the Boss Blues Driver. LOVED it on P-90s, liked it a lot on 'buckers, and didn't try it with SCs. Not very transparent, but I like what it does. If I can't try out a BB at some point soon, I'm probably gonna just get a BD. Check it out.

EDIT: Another note on the BD, picking up a used one and sending it to Robert Keeley to get it modded. That would make it GREAT, I'd think. Obviously a stock Boss pedal won't be a FDII, but it'll save you money, and IMO it sounds really good by itself.

I'm picking up a $39 Bad Monkey after reading nothing but positive comments about it. Sometimes higher priced pedals aren't always 'better' than lower-priced stuff especially in the high-tech world we live in.

Re: O.D Pedals

Quick note on the Keeley modded Blues Driver.....incredible pedal after the mods and fully transparent boost. Plenty of gain, but very vintage flavored and not for metal.

Re: O.D Pedals

Thanks guys, but living up in North australia, i'm very limited to what i can get. Any other suggestions or similar pedals?

Re: O.D Pedals

I just came back from the store. I tried out a Big muff ( wasnt to impressed to bassy) and a Seymour Duncan Pedal ( the booster ). I liked the booster, but it wasnt enough, you have to push it harder to get that sound, and when you turn the pedal off, its very very quiet. More stuff for me to try?

Re: O.D Pedals

I don't like either ibanez or bluesbreaker they r to pedal sounding unless u r adding to and already distorted amp but then they bearly do anything.

Re: O.D Pedals

try a Maxon OD 808.
the circuit should be similar to the ts808, but it's less money - partly because it's not a "reissue" per se

Re: O.D Pedals

I was gonna mention turbo Ts-9; 4 settings, one you've gotta be able to get along with...

Re: O.D Pedals

YEah i just had alook at the turbo ts-9. Much difference between that and an 808? Apart that extra knobs? I think they where + and Bright, Hot and tone or something?

Re: O.D Pedals

I have been extremely pleased with the Morley Diamond Distortion. It sounds great alone as well as in front of or behind other o.d., distortion and fuzz pedals. The name is somewhat misleading as it is really more of an overdrive/boost pedal than distortion.

It makes my tube amp sound great as well as my little Roland Microcube.

They don't make them anymore so your best bet is ebay.

Good luck!

Re: O.D Pedals

Hey guys i'm thinking about getting the TS 9 turbo/Dx. But i heard you can mod it with 808 chip? You guys know anyone who will receive internationally

I was wholly unimpressed with my TS9DX and was ready to offload it until I send it to John on here (StratDeluxer). He modded it and it came back a very usable sounding pedal. It's certainly it's own dog when compared to my Keeley-modded TS-9 (808 mod), my stock TS-9 Reissue and my other pedals.

If I had to have only one single pedal it'd be a major fight between the Keeley and the TS9DX.

But please....keep in mind....these are overdrives....not distortions.

Re: O.D Pedals

Yeah, i'm not looking for distortion, but CRUNCH, something too drive the amp. So i think the Ts9 DSX is the way to go, then hopefully someone on here cant point me to an international modder

Buy something from Indyguitarist ( www.indyguitarist.com )
Brian makes lots of great pedals and they are easy to order. U can listen to soundclips on the website. He builds the pedals on order.

They sound fantastic! I might get myself a Pinnacle pedal - really fat sounding crunch/OD/distortion, nice and organic at a great price too!!!
