OCD Pedal: What do y'all think?

Anyone use this pedal? Is it as magic as many of the reviews say. Please respond if you have used or heard it in action.

Re: OCD Pedal: What do y'all think?

I don't know the technical details, but from what I've heard, the Version 3 is the most updated and most desireable one.

I've never owned one, but have played a couple, and I presume they were the Version 1. I'd say the OCD is more Marshall/Vox, while the FDII is more like a cranked Fender...better for strats/teles. I'm a fan of Fulltone pedals, and use the white CS Fulldrive II. I've always been very happy with the ones I've had, which is the early orange FDII, blue FDII, white FDII, Clyde Deluxe, 69, Choralflange, and gold Dejavibe.

I'm mostly awaiting the new OD/Dist, called the GT 500.

Isn't this one of those "it's so transparent, I can barely tell it's turned on" pedals?

Re: OCD Pedal: What do y'all think?

I do like mine, version 2. It's very transparent, but I'm not completely sold on it either. It does do the hotrodded JCM 800/Vox thing well. I'd like to do a side by side with SD's Twin Tube, CM's Plexitone, Barber Direct Drive, Zvex BOR, Keeley Time Machine Boost to name a few.

Guess I got the crappy version? I Liked my friends and so I got one off E Bay and then sold it within about the second week...

If I were you, I'd take advantage of the fact that Fulltone just re-released the 10th Ann Mosfet FDII in royal blue for $160. It's the same price as the OCD, but does 4 times as much. That means you'll have an easier time mating the pedal with any guitar or amp and finding a tone you'll like.

It's like a Swiss Army OD pedal.

I'm curious about getting the V3 upgrade, my biggest problem with v2 is that it has less mids than I would like. V3 is supposed to fix that.

Re: OCD Pedal: What do y'all think?

Ok heres the skinny with there version II that I bought. Played it at the store...sounded great, enough to buy it on the spot. brought it home plugged it in to my Prosonic, I really couldn't tell the dif. between the pedal engaged or disengaged. I tried my damnest to get a great sound out of it but at long last I gave up. Don't get me wrong, I got good sounds out of it but nothing great or nothing that I can't get from other pedals. Long story short I sold it a week later.

Try a Digitech Bad Monkey.
1/10 the cost and not a bad range of transparent boost.
sh#t...the green colour ain't half bad either !

Re: OCD Pedal: What do y'all think?

I will say I really like the pedal. I have version 1, and I can see where some would find it too bassy.

I like the pedal thru a Marshall or Fender that's got a little break up going. It has a huge boost to kick the amps front end, and it can basically be a Marshall in a box.

I used it a lot with a Marshall and never turned it off. You can roll back the volume and use single coils and it cleans up.

Negatives? It can be a little hi-fi or mosfet like in the wrong amp. It ONLY WORKS WITH CERTAIN AMPS, it's very picky and was designed for OLD MARSHALLS AND FENDERS.

I bought a Soldano Hot Mod, but actually preferred the tone of the OCD when volume is set to noon-ish, and the GAIN is cranked. I used it at 2 auditions thru JCM800 backline provided and it gave a Plexi-ish thing. I like that it has elements of a DS1, TS9, etc that I grew up on but it's WAY MORE ORGANIC.

Don't play it thru some super clean amp, it will sound hi-fi-ish

I have liked mine ot goose my Shiva and my Heartbreaker (when I had one). It's expensive but I haven't foudn anything more compact and easier that was in the same realm save the Radial ToneBone (mayyyyybe). I am a fan of the MNesa V Twin and plan to buy one again for higher gain work.

Trust me, My Marshall Hot PLated on 5 with the OCD Vol near noon and gain up is a monster!

Don't be afraid to roll the tone back and try the 2 different modes.

I also love the FD2, anyone wanna school me on the Mosfet edition?

Really-160?? Where? The website has them at 179. Is there a dealer that has them for less? I know that Mike Fuller is a stickler about price points and dealer representation.

Even at 179, it's a nice pedal. I've not tried the mosfet version, though.

I have OCD #17, upgraded to V.3. It's a great pedal, but if you read Fulltone's site, it's meant to retain the character of your amp, so it's best to have a good amp to start with.
It's very good at what it does though.

$179 is list. Check his dealer list. They go for $161-$165 or so, and yes, that's a good deal.
The FDII, btw, is based on a tubescreamer - it uses the good TS chip - plus the boost, the mids switch, and the MOSFET switch makes for a really versatile pedal.
I'm going to get one soon.

Re: OCD Pedal: What do y'all think?

I tried to like it (twice as a matter of fact) but ultimately sold them. Like John, I thought it was harsh sounding as well. Since I got my modded JCM800, I have yet to find a need for a pedal anyway...
