OD Pedal...

I heard either modded SD-1's or DS-1's do this, but I'm not sure if it's true. I want an almost entirely transparent pedal, that when clicked on will just push my tubes harder to give a more natural bluesy OD. Any ideas?

i have one of these i bought used for under $100.00 and it is by far the most transparent thing ive played on.also SD makes a pickup boost pedal that ive read is just a clean gain boost but no OD settings.i was using the boss pedal to push a jcm 800 just for solos and it does it wonderfully with id say 99.9% unaffecting my guitars tone.plus after the mods its a handy little OD pedal too.

Re: OD Pedal...

There is ZW44 Od for sale in the Trading Post and I like it more than both modded DS-1 and SD-1's I've had.A great smooth OD that can really push your amp with altering your tone ,and no mid hump like most tube screamers.Oh yeah, and they're pretty cheap, thats a plus.

Re: OD Pedal...

The most transparent pedal I've ever used for Boosting purposes is a ZVex Super Duper 2 in 1.

All it has is controls for Boost and a master volume (allowing it to Overdrive itself).

It has a MASSIVE amount of push behind it and works great with non Master Volume amps to get them to Overdrive.

The Fulltone Fat Boost and Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster are both great pedals too, they just don't have as much boost available as the ZVex to my ears :)

Re: OD Pedal...

If you want transparency, go with the Keeley Katana (only problem is that it won't change your tone).

Most clean boosts, will change your tone in some way, they usually thicken and compress the tone slightly when used in conjunction with an overdrive channel. My Pro Analog Dual Drive did a great job of this while still preserving the fundamental tone of my setup and dynamics. A Klon would probably work extremely well for this application, but I've never used one.

Re: OD Pedal...

transparent boost = boss EQ pedal. just crank the level and let the amp make the gain. then shape the boost any way YOU want, not the way a pedal was voiced by someone else. you would be suprised how good this sounds with a little mid boost(frown face on sliders). there are even mods to make the pedal quieter and more transparent than it already is.

Re: OD Pedal...

I've got an MXR Micro amp. It'll pimp-slap those tubes till the (*&^& gives up the tonal booty. Important note: These things vary wildly in quality (the old ones, which are the more "transparent"). So be sure to listen before you buy if you go that way...And +1 on almost everything will color/compress a little bit...
