oddball Fenders and Gibsons

Am I the only one who really has a soft spot fore the oddball's of the family...

I really like Starcasters, and Jazzmasters, and one day I will have a Bass VI, on the Gibson front, I like RD's and Barney Kessles, I also love my Moderne! I was just wondering if I was the only one.

Re: oddball Fenders and Gibsons

i saw a ad for a starcaster in some home magazine... i dont know much about it, just looked like a rip off the strat.

What??? The Starcaster is a middle 70's semi-solid body like an ES-335 but with a bolt on neck and an offset body like a Jazzmaster or a Jaguare, they had the samw Humbucking pups that came in the 70's Thinline Tele's...NOTHING like a Strat at all...

Re: oddball Fenders and Gibsons

I don't know if you'd consider them Oddballs, but I'm really into mustangs. I also like Jazzmasters.

The gibson side, I love the bass that Mike Dirnt of Greenday used to use, I can't think of the name of it offhand though.

Re: oddball Fenders and Gibsons

I am in love with Gibson Hawks. Got my Blueshawk, I will one day have myself a Nighthawk as well!

Give me a Warmoth Jazzmaster anyday of the week

Re: oddball Fenders and Gibsons

I've owned 2 Gibsons, both "oddballs".

Marauder

ES-335-S (Solid body 335 shape, "Firebrand" model)

Re: oddball Fenders and Gibsons

Dude, this guitar is SO you:

Gibson Futura

Odd for it to show up on eBay wiith such a low BIN, AND a TOM/Stop bar bridge instead of a Kahler...

Yeah, I have a thing for the odd Gibbys as well.

Re: oddball Fenders and Gibsons

That Futura is weird, I'm starting to appreciate the slightly more odd designs, fender & gibson, particularly the V and Jazzmaster at the mo.

Re: oddball Fenders and Gibsons

I'd like to have one of those Espirit Fenders like Robben Ford used to play. But my Hamer Monoco Super Pro is close enough! The only oddball Gibson I ever liked was the Moderne, the Flying V and the Explorer. I'd still like to have a great Explorer. Lew

Re: oddball Fenders and Gibsons

I have a '65 Musicmaster II in candy apple red that I've turned into a Duo-Sonic (just changed the pickguard and added a bridge pickup). I guess it counts as weird.

Armotron is right - Fender has a new REALLY CHEAP guitar called a Starcaster that they sell at Cosco, I think. The headstock is triangular shaped but the body is like a Strat.

Back in the 70's I was in love with the semi-hollow Starcaster! There was something odd about it's shape that made it really intriguing. And I liked the fact that it had a maple fingerboard, unlike most semi-hollows. But I've never owned one. Kind of hard to find any for sale these days.

No, it wasn't an SG... it was a blonde colored bass with a black pickgaurd the same style as the one posted by dd12939. Not sure if those were the same pickups he had in his, but same style of bass.
