Oddball Gibson Thread....

So I have a bit of a thing for oddly shaped, limited runs, Guitar’s of the week/month, Post Norlin madness, Etc. & I kinda feel like they deserve a thread all of their own....

So if you show me yours I’ll show you mine....

I’ll start things off with one that’s actually not too far out there but it’s definitely not your typical LP or SG! 2011 Nighthawk reissue in Pelham blue. Like most Gibson guitars it a mahogany set neck guitar with a couple humbuckers, a SH-16/SH-2 in my case. Unlike most Gibson guitars it has a 25.5 (Fender) scale, weighs in @ about 6lbs, & has a string through hard tail bridge which gives it a very snappy attack.

These guys & their original 90’s cousins never really took off but personally I love them! I can play this thing for hours without getting tired & it’s tone is great for cutting through in a band mix...

I know, kinda boring but we’re just getting started.....

I have a very lovely V myself & it’s a fantastic guitar however I’ve always been a little more partial to the 80’s V’s....

Sort of Pac-Man inspired?;)

Re: Oddball Gibson Thread....

I was wondering who’d post the first Corvus!!!

It’s a good multipurpose instrument! You can play it & use it to open your beer, LOL!!!

I’ll never understand why they looked at this & said it looks like a crow???

For some reason I'm really starting to like the guitar a lot. It's a very quirky guitar but I think once you play a Corvus the body shape would make more sense. The one above in black with gold hardware looks very desirable. I'm developing a serious case of G.A.S.:)

For my next oddity I give you the ES-139...

Single cut semi-hollow with a center block, no F holes, & Burstbuckers. I suppose it’s not the strangest thing they ever put out but this is one of only 1500 ever made & only for during the one year. Believe it or not it’s actually one of my favorite guitars period! It doesn’t feedback like most semi-hollow bodies & weighs in at about 6lbs.....

Re: Oddball Gibson Thread....

I actually have a dream of modding a Government Explorer to be an X-Files tribute. It's a real b*tch to find one in the wild at a reasonable price though. But I want to believe there's one out there for me.

Absolutely gorgeous man, reminds me of my ES-330 a little bit!!! Just recently I very nearly bought a Gov. Edition Explorer! It had a headstock repair that was actually done really well (with mahogany splines) but in the end the guy was still looking to get like a grand out of it & it just wasn’t that nice unfortunately?

Too bad though, if that headstock hadn’t been broken & he’d been asking the same price, that guitar would be posted here today!!!

Speaking of my ES-330...

In a beautiful flat black finish, adorned with gold hardware, & unlike most Gibson 330’s this one has a couple humbuckers in it. The original pups were pulled out in favor of a factory covered Seymour Duncan A6 Bandito set....

She’s got tone for days!!!!

Re: Oddball Gibson Thread....

I’d also like to state that even with the Reverse V, Corvus, & Moderne up I think I can still top em?

I’ll wait a little longer to see what else comes out of the woodwork before posting it...
