Official Forum Pickup Beta Tester

SD Media Manager
So we are getting ready to start the forum '59 Custom Hybrid neck pickup. I'd like to offer an opportunity for someone from the forum to:

1) Beta test and offer feedback
2) Post clips for the forum to offer their thoughts.

If you are interested, please reply here and if you have any example of clips you've recorded post those as well.

Re: Official Forum Pickup Beta Tester

I'd be interested in being a beta tester. The guitar it would go in would be a set neck, mahogany bodied LP copy. In the bridge would be a PAF clone. Mismatched coils, A4 mag, 9.1k and unpotted. obviously the neck would be the beta pickup. Unfortunately I don't have a 59/custom hybrid for the bridge so it wouldn't be an exact match. I do think if someone does have a hybrid (which many do) for the bridge that person would be a more desirable candidate. Just wanted to throw my interest out there.

Here's one sound clip I posted a while back.

I can do it. I have a 59/Custom in the Schecter in my avatar. Got a Bassman and 4x10 , a Blues Jr. and a Socal 50 and 4x12.

Re: Official Forum Pickup Beta Tester

I can offer this guitar as a test bed and make multiple comparisons on the fly.

Re: Official Forum Pickup Beta Tester

I'd be willing to test it. It'd go in a G&L Tribute ASAT, which has a mahogany back, maple top, maple neck, and rosewood fretboard. 25.5" scale length, fixed bridge, and a thinner body. I can also test how it sounds with series/split/parallel, testing the split with the standard coil shunt, and then shunting the other coil.

I can also provide sound samples of the guitar solo, with multiple amp settings, and then the guitar in a mix.

Re: Official Forum Pickup Beta Tester

I bought a 59/custom off of a forum member a few years back and have not used yet. I could try it out in a '78 Gibson "The Paul" (all walnut body and neck w/ebony fretboard).

Re: Official Forum Pickup Beta Tester

Sign me up! I've got a PRS Custom 24 I'd love to give a '59/Custom Hybrid Neck a go in.

Here's some demos and tone tests I've done in the past. Most of these are old and were done on minimal equipment, but I won the SDUGF riff-offs that way ;) (see gloss) http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=798980&content=music

I've got easy access to a studio with professional audio/video recording equipment. I can get the job done right.

I'd love to give it go. Give it a good few gig workouts in my Fret-King Esprit that has a '59/Custom in the bridge. It would also give me the incentive to finally install the coil split on that guitar too! :)

Re: Official Forum Pickup Beta Tester

I would be willing to give one a spin.
Doing what I do I normally record everything live we play on a Zoom Q3HD.
I'm a worship player run few effects and cover a lot of musical ground in a set most of the time.
Here are a couple live clips

I would really enjoy to become a beta tester. I would put the '59 Custom Hybrid in my Agile A-2000 which has MICROPHONIC issues. It has a set neck and a mahogany body, rosewood fretboard. I have heard great things about this pickup and would love to try it out.

This is the guitar I recorded this piece with, it's the one with the microphonics issue.

How did you embed a video in the post? I can do photos but haven't done a video yet.

I would answer here but I'm not going to aid in driving the thread off topic. Also, this topic has been covered before and a search will find your answer.

I'm tempted to beta test but I don't currently have access to all my equipment, so I wouldn't be able to do any clips...

The clips are the most important part IMO. Having a guitar and the desire to be the beta tester is awesome, but if you can't make a high quality demo of what this pickup can do the other stuff is irrelevant.

Re: Official Forum Pickup Beta Tester

What if we had the prototype pickup take a mini tour among 3-5 beta testers, all with a different musical genre/style (country, blues, rock, metal)? All are required to still post clips, but you'd see how versatile the pickup is and how it sounds for your type of music. Just an idea.

If I could nominate one person, it would be Danny Young.

SORRY I WILL HAVE TO SEARCH THAT...THANKS

Re: Official Forum Pickup Beta Tester

What kind of timeframe are you looking at for testing?

I'm asking because I don't have the time right now, but I'll be quitting driving truck at the end of July and will have some free time between then and when my classes start in August.

I have several guitars that I would be willing to try the pickup out in, I'll just have to pick up a '59/C bridge to go with it.

Guitars:
- Jackson USA KV2 King V, maple neck thru with alder wings, ebony board, and a floyd.
- Gibson Explorer, mahogany neck & body, rosewood board, and a tune-o-matic.
- Ibanez RG321MH, bolt on maple neck, rosewood board, a really bright mahogany body, and a hardtail bridge.
- Jackson JS Series King V, bolt on maple neck, rosewood board, Alder body, & a tune-o-matic.

All of my bolt on Super Strats with alder bodies have the HSS pickup configuration, so they're out.

My amps:
- Marshall JVM 410H
- Splawn Pro Mod
- Fender Supersonic 60
- Mesa 3 channel Triple Rectifier.

Cabs:
- Mesa Rectifier standard slant 4x12 with British v30s
- Splawn straight 4x12 with Eminence Governor & Man O War speakers
- Marshall 1960A with Celestion G12T-75s & Chinese V30s
- Avatar Vintage 4x12 with Celestion G12T-75s & Chinese V30s

For audio I would use my Line6 UX2 interface into one of Pod Farm's mic preamp models and then into Reaper, using a pair of Sennheiser e609 Silver mics.

Wow. He is pretty dang good. I'd like to see him demo it, too.

I'm definitely not the most versatile player around, but if you're interested in someone to demo it in a hard rock/metal setting, I'd like to volunteer. For gear demos, I like to write a song then play through it to demo the gear in a studio mix. After the song I post clips and talk about the gear to the audience. The lighting isn't great because I had to do it late at night, but here's an example:

The guitar it would go in is an Epiphone G400 Custom (the 3-pickup version). Currently it has a JB in the bridge, a PhatCat in the middle and a '59 in the neck. I could demo how it sounds in combination with those pickups, and compare how it sounds to a standard '59. I'd probably be playing through my Mesa Boogie Dual Rec/Mesa Recto 2x12 mic'd up with an SM57.

Let me know if that's something you're interested in; I'd be more than happy to put a demo video together :)

Re: Official Forum Pickup Beta Tester

id think the beta tester should have the c/59 bridge pup since this is supposed to be a companion
